Overton to tight end?

Feb 25, 2019, 4:28 PM

He appears to be bigger than Ross and Higgins. Is he willing to block?

He's smaller than both of them weight wise and they're all about 6 4. He's a very small framed guy I would be surprised if we were able to get him to gain enough weight to be an effective tight end especially because that's the hardest position to play on our offense I believe.

Yes, I agree. I just don't see how he could play tight end. In today's game, college tight ends at D-1 schools will need to weigh 250+. I don't understand Dabo's aversion to occasionally bringing in a top-flight JUCO player. We did this in the past with great success. Why this rigidity when it really at times harms our program?? If you are as thin on tight ends as we are, why in the world wouldn't you go out and bring in a couple of All-American JUCO players?? Hello??

My suggestion to you is to stop coaching, now. It is very obvious that our staff knows what they are doing and you do not. There are many ways to play this game and they know better than you, so just shut up.

We're the only school in the past century to go 15-0. I don't think we're being hurt too bad by not bringing in JUCO. Secondly we don't bring in JUCO because they're plug and play, when is the last time you've heard the coaches state that a true freshmen really knew the playbook and was great? Ross was excellent, but took almost the whole season to really look comfortable. Etienne broke freshmen records and the coaches stated that he was still unfamiliar with the playbook at the seasons end. Now what benefit would bringing in a Junior who needs a year to learn the playbook if not more since it's the most advanced position in our offense really bring us? 3-4 games of being comfortable just to go pro after or a wasted scholarship with needing a year of development and a year of playing (hopefully). Not to mention a lot of JUCO players that are extremely talented are in JUCO for a reason such as attitude, grades, trouble with the law. Not all were just "overlooked".

Feb 25, 2019, 5:45 PM

Well he's not. Also TE is just a little bit about catching and a lot more about directing traffic and blocking.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

+1 for the "directing traffic" reference . . .***

Overton will play on Sunday's at wr. He's just stuck behind two 1st round picks in Higgins and Ross.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

you expecting him to be able to block a DE?

Feb 25, 2019, 6:38 PM

Needs about 30/40 more lbs.

Dabo has your name and wants you to forward a list of people you have determined need to change positions.Do it quickly spring practice starts later in the week and he needs to implement it asap

Clemson pays the coaching staff in excess of 18 million a year to make these decisions. I don't think they need any help deciding who the tight end needs to be.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Silly coots STILL don't understand Dabo recruits culture as

Feb 25, 2019, 8:22 PM

well as talent. Gamecock JUCO "plug-n-play" doesn't get you to 15-0. Back to your coop, little dirtpecker

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Actually if I were moving someone to TE..

Feb 26, 2019, 10:33 AM

it would be Tanner Muse with all the young safety talent we have coming in. He was our weakest link in pass coverage last year, he loves to hit people, has the size (230) and can catch the ball. Plug in Charleston at safety and move him.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Cornell Powell would be the better option to TE imo***
