It’s sarcasm Sam, but hey...iIf our DJ would play some Merle instead of that garbage he plays these days our defense might get pumped enough to win a game or two! ??

Good stuff. Reminds me of the jukeboxes in little cafes in the upstate when I was a kid.

Reminds me of being a kid and sitting around at my Uncle Homer Carter's cabin on Lake Wylie . The adults would be listening to Willie , Merle , Waylon and the like and us kids would be doing whatever we could have wanted to be doing …just beyond the reach of the campfire light .

All I remember is that Uncle Homer's place was off of Allison Creek rd . Beyond that , I haven't been there since the mid 1980's .

It was “way down” the lake from Buster Boyd Bridge. Close to the ### & Rock Hill end - relatively undeveloped in late 60s - no Tega Cay yet. Was a great fish camp down there just past Goat Island - can’t remember the name but great flounder & baked potato!

:) I lived in Tega Cay for a couple of years when I first worked in Charlotte. Interesting place.

[TD23 - thanks. Take it from one who knows good, and even great stuff when he encounters it - you need to, or should, write a book, and maybe title it: "Beyond the Reach of the Campfire Light". If you don't, I might, with all acknowledgment to you.]

If you're from the country of poor stock, you'll recognize

This. It's an anthem of southern poverty. You'll relate if you're not middle class. It brings back memories if hour from up in the hills. He won a grammy for this. One of country's greatest song writers. The Heming way of those from the 'wrong side of the tracks.

It's a classic that and was nominated for a Grammy. Coe only made it out of poverty because of his music and uncanny knack for capturing the truth of one side of southern culture.

(keep posting great music oldschool57 . You've lived this story....as have I. :)

(this is from the 60's and has an innapropriate referenc.)
