Muschamp, The Super Recruiter

Jul 9, 2019, 12:33 PM

Sometimes the praises directed at a new hire do not refer to the main reason for the hire. In any sport the new hire is supposed to "make our team a winner". After being turned down by several coaches with an excellent resume, the Gamecocks were finally able to find their next failure, Coach Muschamp. Muschamp was hired to be the coach who would finally lead the coots out of the football wilderness. As soon as the hire was announced, Gamecock fans joined in unison by declaring their new coach as the best recruiter in all of the college football world.

Thus far, the evidence clearly shows Muschamp does not come within ear shot of being the best recruiter in all of college football. Heck, he fails miserably in being the best in South Carolina. Snake oil is not the route of success in recruiting top football talent. When a prospect has the opportunity to see and hear how successful programs operate, de-commitments occur and this has become a common occurrence in Columbia. The frequency of de-commitments should raise a red flag re the recruiting practices employed.

A glance at the Gamecock's current roster and current 2020 commitment list, indicate many of these young men would have been Tigers had Clemson not had prospects higher on their board. Thus, Muschamp's greatest claim to being a top recruiter can be attributed to Clemson and its level of recruiting. Gamecock fans remind us on a constant basis that in recruiting they are locking down South Carolina. I must admit this is true but with one caveat, the lockdown occurs after we have finished our cherry picking.

Dang, ole Joe given it the coots with both barrels.

My favorite quote from FGF today.

"Can someone find out from Todd Ellis when the "cycling in" is supposed to begin?"

Remember, Muschamp is the man who claimed he could sell ice to an Eskimo, basically admitting he is selling "smoke". When the Eskimos realize they don't need the ice and have been hoodwinked, they go elsewhere.

Great point

You can tell recruits everything they want to hear to get them to commit but the smart ones with better options will realize what actually is going on and will go elsewhere.

UNC picking up their recruiting should terrify coot fans as they’ve had a fair amount of success getting the higher rated NC recruits that the elite schools aren’t fighting over so they were beating out NCSU and a weaker UNC.

That’s going to put a much bigger emphasis on development and I don’t think Muschamp really knows how to do that.

Agree. UNC locking down NC should be a BIG concern to the chickens. GT having better success in GA should concern them too. Their recruiting lake has too many fisherman and not enough fish. They'll have to be content with a bunch of minnows in the future.

Take away all the recruits who had ties too the coots

Jul 9, 2019, 11:08 PM

the ones who grew up coot fans or had coot parents, the ones who parents or coach who got Jobs at coot U, or the ones who has family or friends already enrolled at coot U. Etc.etc.

What has he really done in recruiting?
