Mitch Hyatt

Apr 21, 2019, 8:03 PM

Hyatt hasn't been getting much press and it appears the NFL has him in the 'Great in college, not in the NFL' category. Now a 5.33 ratingbon NFL.com, a potential backup. SI says he's the 188th prospect overall.

Seems surprising. They say handling speed and strength are issues.

Who thinks he will out perform these expectations?

I think he’s a spot starter maybe have some starts. I think he could develop into a starter.

all three are good QBs

Mahomes is probably the best of the three based on stats and pro-bowl

Exactly. Mahomes is considered the best QB in the NFL by most right now. He would be the first pick in the draft if they had that draft over.

188 is absolutely crazy. He's a 5* that started over other 5*'s and almost had a flawless career. Dude will likely have a great NFL career.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No he didn't

Apr 22, 2019, 8:22 AM

He did not "start over other 5*s". He was thrust into the starting position as a freshman, because the guy in front of him left for the Supplemental Draft (Isaiah Battle). There was not a 5* behind him until his senior year when Jackson Carman arrived, but there was absolutely never a chance that Carman was taking the starting gig after arriving 50lbs overweight.

Hyatt was good in college. He was beaten a lot by good to great pass rushers. If it was my head on the line, I probably wouldn't draft him in the first 4-5 rounds.

I've never understood the OL transition to the NFL

Apr 22, 2019, 10:09 AM

You'll see guys you've never heard of go in the 1st and 2nd rounds and guys with multiple All-Conference accolades go undrafted.

That being said, I expect 5th round at the latest for Mitch. It is weird, cause I swear I saw him in the 1st in a way-too-early mock a while ago. You never know with the NFL scouts and GMs. Either way, I definitely think he'll get every opportunity to succeed in the NFL. They may want to move him to RT, and a lack of position versatility is a bit of a knock on him.

As a longtime Browns fan, I saw a lot of Joe Thomas. Mitch Hyatt reminds me of him in a lot of ways, especially with regard to fundamentals and durability. I think he'll do well.
