Feaster

May 16, 2019, 9:06 PM

Not very smart for leaving for more playing time. Will be in line for more carries and catches. I just don’t get it. These guys should trust the coaches and not their handlers.

If Feaster stayed at Clemson he was going to see his carries go down not up. ENT9 only averaged 13 carries a game last year and was going to be backed up by Lyn J Dixon not Feaster.

You sound quite sure about that.
I suppose it would be quite competitive between those two.

Lyn J had a lot more production when he got carries last year and is a much more dynamic runner. Feaster has great straight line speed but doesn’t have good vision or change of direction. Lyn J will have a great year in 2019.

Not only that.. Feaster runs very timid compared to ETN & LJ***

I don't know why bc Feaster had the experience, talent, and plenty of speed when got past the D line!!!

Doubt that but either way they would both get around 4-8 carries a game. Feaster will go somewhere and get 15 carries a game maybe more. Smart move on his part if he wants to be able to play and show scouts he can be an every down back.

How long will it take Feaster 2 learn playbook?

May 16, 2019, 10:51 PM

He should stay at Clemson and win a 3rd Natty!

He will pick it up quickly I am sure. He is an intelligent kid and he will pick a school where he will start no doubt. Why would he stay at Clemson and only get 5 carries a game when he averages over 5 yards a carry when he could go somewhere and get the ball 15 times a game maybe more? Just doesn't make sense for him to stay.

Re: Feaster

May 16, 2019, 10:40 PM [ in reply to Re: Feaster ]

LJD played in zero pressure situations so he could play free and not really worry about 1st downs or fumbles.

Feaster is our second best YPC RB all time and a great player. He's also our best blocking RB, not something ETN specializes in and I don't believe LJD got much practice at it either. Feaster will get extra snaps this year as Choice was also used for blocking and he's gone now.

We shall see. He also may see his YPC plummet because he doesn't know the system and doesn't have as good of an O-line. This will severely hurt his draft stock.

He surely wasn't going to get drafted high getting 5 carries a game at Clemson. Best to take a chance else where.

Re: Feaster

He would have more opportunities to display his skills in Clemsons offense than anywhere else I can think of.

We share the load more than anybody.

To be THE MAN he will have to go to a less than top 20 TEAM=u0f suc

5 touches a game is not enough opportunities. Not even close to enough. He may have to go to a team outside the top 25. We may share the load a good bit but that hurts him. We have other backs that will get touches and throw the ball a good bit. He needs to go to a running team where he would start. I'm sure he will find a place he can get the ball over 10 times a game and that isn't happening at Clemson. Even our best back doesn't get much more than that.

1200 career yard RB that got drafted in the 6th.

He has the speed, efficiency, and body. Somebody will take Feaster.

He has aspirations of playing in the NFL...

May 17, 2019, 8:20 AM

and so he's obviously trying to enhance his draft status.

I'm not sure Oklahoma or Bama are realistic options for him. Much like Clemson, there is a lot of competition at the position. The Sooners return both Trey Sermon and Kennedy Brooks (two of the Big 12's top rushers) who combined for over 2,000 yards last season. OU also adds one of the top JUCO running backs in the country in Rhamondre Stevenson. While Bama lost top ball carriers Damien Harris and Josh Jacobs, they still have Najee Harris who will be the featured back along with freshman 5-star recruit Trey Sanders.

That apparently leaves Virginia Tech or u of 5c.

Virginia Tech returns Deshawn McClease, Jalen Holston, Terius Wheatley, and they have incoming freshmen Tahj Gary and Keshawn King. Virginia Tech’s ground game was slightly more effective in 2018 (4.4 yards per carry) versus 2017 (3.86 yards), but it still wasn’t very reliable particularly in short-yardage situations. Tech finished 11th in the conference on third and short (1-3 yards) yardage situations with a first down conversion percentage of 56 percent. The Hokies have plenty of talent at the position, but they need to get more out of the group. Interestingly, Virginia Tech hasn’t had a running back average 15 carries a game in three years under coach Justin Fuente (he prefers to spread the carries around more). The team’s leading rusher during that span is actually former starting quarterback Jerod Evans. Based on VT's lack of explosiveness on the ground (an issue that needs to be addressed), Feaster would likely be the featured back in the offense from day one. Another issue for VT is the OL. While they have a nice collection of talent on the OL (returning four with at least some starting experience), it might take a few weeks for the line to get rolling as coaches sort out positions and find the best combination of talent.

With respect to the DirtPeckers...well...it's pretty much Dowdle (who has been injury prone) and not much else. U of 5c didn't really have a featured back last year. They seemed content to go with the “hot hand” approach, as in whoever was doing the best stayed in which makes it harder for a guy to get into a rhythm or get into the flow of running the ball. The WormPullers would like to identify two main backs and try to ride those the hardest. Dowdle, Denson and A.J. Turner who also repped at cornerback for the first five practices just in case USC needs him there, seem to be the three most likely candidates for those roles. u of 5c does return three starters on what can only be described as a pretty weak OL which also explains why they struggled to run the ball against the better defenses they faced. 2019 will be no different. Similar to VT, Feaster would likely be the top RB for the Cawks from day one but could see his YPC plummet because he doesn't know the system as well and because he doesn't have a good O-line to block for him.

We shall see !!!

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

Re: He has aspirations of playing in the NFL...

I think he'd do better with VT. Fuente is a much better coach than Muschamp and his offensive system suits Feaster better because it's not much of a schematic or conceptual change from what Clemson does. You don't want to learn a new system when you're a 1-and-done guy. South Carolina is doing more spread but honestly you watch film from last year and it's not really clear sometimes what they want to do...and as you pointed out, it's limited by that OL of theirs which will likely be significantly worse this year minus OG Zach Bailey and LT Dennis Daley, who was drafted at the end of Round 6.

VT needs to sort out its QB situation, but Fuente has always been good at that.

Re: Feaster

First of all, I'm very sorry to see Feaster leave because he pass blocks and is a good receiver out of the backfield. He also brings leadership to the locker room. As great as he is, Etienne is non of these.

However, I believe LJD may be the best pure runner on the team. At some point during the season, decent chance Feaster would be pushed to 3rd string. Perhaps he realized this during spring practice.

I wish him the best pursuing his NFL dream. We don't know yet if this helps him or not.
