“I've not seen a more competitive player than Jaelyn Lay. His skillset is super, super special,” Venables said. “We (linebackers) matched up with the tight ends in camp, and Jaelyn Lay is the most impressive tight end I have seen in a camp since I've been coaching.

“Hopefully he brings work ethic and toughness and competitiveness to grind with him — and I believe he will because I think he's made of the right stuff. I really like what he's about. I've been as impressed with him as anybody I've seen in camp, at any position.”



Tell me the hairs didn't stand at attention on your arms . . . or at least they twitched a bit?!!!

Jaelyn is going to be Special . . . and his arrival could not have been timed any better . . . there is a place set for him at the table . . . Come on and eat big guy!!!

When I read that I raised my expectations to thinking we have a potential all time Clemson great TE on our hands.

He supposedly has that level of talent...per everybody who's laid eyes on him. Picked a good year for it, what with us losing two senior TE's and Braden Galloway likely being suspended for the upcoming season.

The acid test, as ever, will be the coachability, work ethic, and development...and of course, if the kid is actually willing to block. Being a really awesome pass-catching TE is great and all but this kid is only going to get on the field if he's a willing and capable blocker, otherwise Clemson is likely to go predominantly 10p (4-wide, with no TE's) because our WR corps is so dominant right now.

But yeah, allegedly he's more talented than Dwayne Allen.
