For us old-timers....... .

Oct 29, 2018, 6:33 PM

Who was our best overall player in the 1960s?

I would say Charlie Waters. What do you think?

He would be #1....My favorite was #44 Buddy Gore... Or as Coach Howard would say..Budday Goah...

I was just a kid, but I remember Charlie W breaking his leg in a game. First time I had seen an air cast.

Addison...

Oct 29, 2018, 7:25 PM [ in reply to Re: For us old-timers....... . ]

was a good QB....at least I remember him being effective with his passing. Buddy Gore was a hoss...probably the one I remember the most...gosh I'm getting old.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I miss Coach Howard...

Oct 29, 2018, 7:29 PM

he would really enjoy all the recent success of the Tigers...probably take credit for it. :)

Coach Howard used to say "Buddy go for fo mo" (four more) about Buddy Gore.

I'm not sure about "overall", but Harry O was clearly our best player. He made a few AA teams and was selected to the ACC 25th year anniversary team.

Don Chuy...a guy on the team back then said he was such a bad man, he did not eat with a knife and fork....he used his fingers and ate with his hands. He did not think he was human

I do remember a Vice Strenskzi (sp), not starter but great guy, chasing some qb all around the backfield

Lou Cordileone tackle drafted by the Giants and the Bills (AFL). With a name like Cordileone you knew he was bad to the bone.

I would say fan favorites were Buddy and Charlie but

like he said above, Harry Olzewski and also Wayne Mass made some All-America teams as offensive linemen. They were both on the 1967 Playboy AA team. Bill Mathis at RB and Wayne Mulligan at C went on to long NFL careers.

Harvey White and Pat Crane are two more I recall. My favorite name was Connie Wade.

I know that this is strange, but 2 of my faves have always been Obed Ariri and Donald Igwebuike.

Yeah, but they were in kindergarten in the '60s

Buddy Gore stands out to me from the 60’s. The ‘67 team was a good one and featured a bunch of good players - Jimmy Addison, Wayne Mass, Harry O, Phil Rodgers, Jacky Jackson, etc.

If people were as good as their obituary - and products were as good as advertised - this would truly be a wonderful world !!
