Proposed Discretionary Spending

Jan 5, 2019, 1:17 PM

Why can't we find $5B out of $1.2T in spending. Calling out both pubs and dems here.

Both sides want to make it a media event.

I'm pissed at both sides. (sorry about the formatting.)

why not spend 5 billion on a giant statue of trump at the border instead, would be about as effective and I think he walks away happy.

no, I rarely day drink, heck I rarely drink at all these days. And i know a wall will only pick off the low hanging fruit, it does nothing to stop drugs and criminals from coming here. They come by boat and plane.

Because Trump said Mexico would pay for it, so the Dems want him to look bad for political reasons. He was already supposedly offered something like 20 billion, but he turned it down due to some demands the Dems needed that he couldn't stomach politically.

Wall is built, trump walks through the next election. That is why they are blocking him so hard.

Let it go

Jan 5, 2019, 2:02 PM

He couldn't get it done with pubs in both chambers, probably because it's both unpopular and dumb.

Not unpopular, see the last election.

Not dumb, see the wall built and stop a lot of human smuggling and trafficking. Not completely, but would be a huge help, which is worth every dime.

But you do you and I will keep hoping it happens.

I am not even sure the Dems down deep mind the wall. It's just political and they don't want Trump to accomplish what he wants. If they do give him his wall, they will ask for something in return that will anger conservative pundits.

Wasn't a big part of the "popularity" tied to Mexico paying?

Jan 5, 2019, 2:24 PM [ in reply to Re: Let it go ]

and the money would be better spent on beefing up security at points of entry, and adding more border patrol guards as most say would be much more effective.

Considering we actually have more people leaving the country than coming in, maybe immigration isn't our biggest problem facing the country? Certainly, I think we can all agree shutting down the government over it is dumb and petty.

If it's so popular

Jan 5, 2019, 3:30 PM [ in reply to Re: Let it go ]

then why didn't a Republican Congress do it already?

Border security smart. Wall dumb. Both Rs & Ds know it.***
