if the committee was truly picking the playoff teams as of right now... Clemson would be one of the four instead of Penn St.

I'm not saying that's necessarily right or wrong because I actually think that Penn St deserves to be ranked #3. But, let's not kid ourselves. Bama and Clemson are superior teams.

That doesn't mean that Penn St couldn't beat Bama or Clemson. They could. But Clemson and Bama would win that game 90% of the time and the committee knows that.

Amen to that.

The way it seems to be working out right now, the committee cares more about merits and achievements and strength of schedule and rewarding good behavior, etc. in the preliminary rankings, but then all the sudden it insists on the best four teams in the final rankings…

Me: “If two distinct standards exist, does that mean there’s a double standard?”
CFP committee: “No.”
