February 15, 1916: u5c loses to G'ville HS 33 to 18 leaving its supporters to push for status of the university as a football school. At that time there were just ten grades so the HS team was made up of players no older than sophomores of later years.

The college lads probably wished for a gym filled with roosters, since it could have prevented those agile home court lads from gaining an advantage by using the walls!
How about that foul disparity! U5c whistled for 27 fouls, the GHS quintet only 17. In fact, the Roosters only made 1 field goal in the game. Great defense, GHS.

That's Strom Thurmond's dad who would have been the district attorney at the time in Greenwood (I'm assuming that has to be right. His dad was a lawyer out of the Greenwood area).

Somewhere in their trophy case should be a banner because they lost by only fifteen points, an indication they were just as good as even better than the high school team.

Both of these schools were/are my rivals. GHS in high school, and UofSuc in college and the rest of my life. My HS usually beat GHS in BBall, but it is no longer a HS.
