On the 2020 census form, you will be asked a question.

It will say "What is [your] race?"
What will your answer be, and why? That "why" is really the crux of my question.
(I know this is prime candidate for sarcastic posts, but I do want you to know that I am very interested in learning how people think about this question, so I hope I get some serious replies.)
Here were the choices last time, and I suppose they will be the same:
White
Black, African Am., or Negro
American Indian or Alaska Native — Print name of enrolled or principal tribe.
Asian Indian
Chinese
Filipino
Japanese
Korean
Vietnamese
Other Asian — Print race, for example, Hmong, Laotian, Thai, Pakistani, Cambodian, and so on.
Native Hawaiian
Guamanian or Chamorro
Samoan
Other Pacific Islander — Print race, for example, Fijian, Tongan, and so on.
Some other race — Print race.

Because not everyone is clearly defined as "white" or "black."
Race is poorly defined and is more a social construct than a biological marker.

It's what society says and different people have different ideas. That's why I said it was concerning that flow was so adamant about defining races. That's the wheelhouse of groups like white supremacists and black separatists. Not biology.
