Notre Dame hasn't won a major bowl since 1994

Oct 17, 2018, 9:47 PM

January 1, 2019 will mark the 25th anniversary of Notre Dame defeating Texan A&M in the Cotton Bowl. Notre Dame has not won a major bowl since that game at the end of the 1993 season.

They have played in 17 bowl games over that 25 year period and have won only 5 of them.

That's right.

Their record in bowl games since that long ago Cotton Bowl win is 5 wins and 12 losses. This is what happens when a team is invited to play in a bowl because of their name and the money they will bring in instead of earning it. They get beat by a better team that deserved to be there.

Their appearance in the BCS championship in Jan 2013 was another embarrassment. They were soundly thrashed by Alabama and at one point in the third quarter
trailed 35-0 before scoring a couple of garbage time touchdowns to lose 42-14.

Despite this dismal post season record, the national media keep trying to build them up and pretend that they are an elite team.

It seems that any time they can make it through the first few games on their schedule without a loss the 'experts' are ready to proclaim that Notre Dame is back.

Maybe this year they are for real. But I'm not convinced. I think they are about as real as Manti Te'o's imaginary girlfriend.

Over the next several weeks we will find out.

If they do make the playoff, I hope we get to play them in the first round.

Interesting info. Was not aware of their poor bowl record.

If we look at this year and you are the committee picking the top 4, would you include them as of now?

I think the top 4 at this point is pretty clear. I’m sure it will change before December, but I this point for this season I don’t have anything negative to say about ND.

Agreed, top 4 as of right now is a group of their own.
