Not touching the receiver

Sep 9, 2019, 10:33 PM

In the NFL, the player has to be touched down. When Ted Ginn caught the pass, leave him and do not touch him, the clock expires. Or, is there a specific rule that if the receiver goes down intentionally, the clock stops?

yep, there’s a rule about giving yourself up

You can go down and declare yourself down.

interesting point. probably stops cause he gave himself up. I still think the NFL should stop the clock till chains are set like in college.

I was thinking the same thing. Just let him lay on the ground for 2 seconds and game over. I’m not exact but a player can give himself up like when a qb slides. But the throw was low and it looked like he was going down to catch it, so if he wasn’t touched the play would have still been live.

agree but does having a timeout change anything?

Can he call a timeout as soon as he takes a knee?

I figured only when receiver declared down can a timeout
