No. 9 Wisconsin Defeats Tigers in Clemson Classic Finale

CLEMSON, S.C – The ninth-ranked Wisconsin Badgers (4-2, 0-0 Big Ten) defeated Clemson in three sets, 25-19, 25-16, 25-20, in front of a packed Jervey Gym Saturday afternoon. With a 2-0 record for the tournament, the Badgers were crowned Clemson Classic tournament champions. Clemson junior middle hitter Alyssa Deloney was named to the All-Tournament team after hitting .469 for the tournament along with 16 kills, eight blocks and three service aces in eight sets played.

Deloney led the Clemson effort in the first as she hit .500 for the set in addition to three of her five kills for the match and two of her match-high four blocks. The Badgers closed out the first on a 5-1 run and took the opening frame, 25-19. In the second, it was sophomore right side hitter Solei Thomas who led the offensive charge for Clemson. Thomas hit .500, tallied four kills and one block for the set. Thomas would finish the match with 10 kills. Once again, Wisconsin finished the set strong, this time on a 6-1 run to take the set, 25-16, and a 2-0 lead. Coming out of the break, the Tigers looked much improved from the first two sets as the set was tied, 17-17, midway through the game. The Badgers’ physical presence at the net helped them win eight of the last 11 points of the match to take set No. 3, 25-20, and a clean sweep for the match.

Clemson junior outside hitter Kaylin Korte registered her eighth career double-double – third of the season – with 11 kills and 10 digs.

Up next, Clemson (5-4, 0-0 ACC) returns to the hardwood in Minneapolis, Minnesota for the Gophers’ Diet Coke Classic Sept. 19-20. The Tigrse will square off against Minnesota on Thursday, Sept. 19 at 8 p.m. (ET) on BTN+.
