Out of curoiosity

Say Clemson beats a team, top 10 when they play. That team turns out to lose 5 games by the seasons end. Would this win still count as a significant “top 10” win? Vice versa, we beat a team that is unranked and they turn out to win every other game and end up in the top 10 would that be a “top 10 win”

Neither, unless you are in the SEC***

SEC teams get the benefit of “highest rank achieved” of opponents
All other conferences get “lowest rank achieved”

... and that's not counting the inflated preseason rankings.***

they most definitely count the inflated preseason rankings.

That's the whole point behind them.

Although I tend to agree with this, I think the committee has been pretty good taking the wins of where said team is ranked at the time. Unlike the pundits, they actually review and watch the games.

They’ll give us credit for the cuse game.

No and yes. This is very easy, and very simple.

There is no room for opinion or argument here. With a few rare exceptions, early season rankings should carry no weight when compared to rankings at or near the end of the season.

If you beat a team in your first game that is ranked #1 in the country, then that team goes on to lose every single remaining game, then you did NOT beat the best team in the country; rather you beat a team that was terrible, and you do not deserve any credit whatsoever for beating a good team, much less #1. If you beat an unranked team early, then that team goes undefeated the rest of the way and gets ranked in the top 10, then you certainly deserve credit for beating a very good (top 10) team.

Now, if you beat top-10 team early, then they lose their Heisman-candidate QB to injury, or have other such bad luck and go on to lose a few games and fall out of the top 10, then you may still deserve credit for a top-10 win.

Paul Finebaum pointed to Alabama beating FSU as quality win

last year almost every single show. But for some reason he counted Clemson beating FSU as Clemson beating an inferior opponent.

The gumps kept saying they should get credit for "breaking" FSU.
