@hartins still remembers watching the team wear those helmets. They started wearing them around his 30th birthday

Actually I'm all for that because it would solve a couple of

problems overnight. One, it would eliminate the concussion issue. Players have developed using their head as a weapon and going for the big hit because of TV and the evolution of technology in the helmet. If we dialed back helmet tech 20 or 30 years players would be forced to actually tackle and not use their head. I have felt for years that we should go back to helmets of the 80s and eliminate all the elaborate face masks.

Two, tackling would greatly improve. Basketball in America has become about athleticism, not real basketball skill and IQ. Football has seen that with tackling. For 20 years tackling has been on the decline. Players want that Sportscenter highlight, that big hit. As helmet tech has evolved the head has increasingly become a weapon, which further degraded tackling. Rewind the helmet 20 years and players will need to learn real tackling again.

Three, by eliminating the concussion issue, we can have real kickoff's again and get rid of a lot of stupid rules enacted over the pat 5 years.

The first thing my dad taught me was how to square up, bend my knees, keep my head up, focus on his belt buckle, then launch into the ball carrier's ribs with my shoulder while simultaneously wrapping him up and lifting with my legs to drive him backwards. I was taught that practically as a toddler along with how to catch, throw, and properly take a handoff. But the skills exhibited by kids today, at ALL levels, are terrible. Tackling in college has been putrid for years and it sucks in the NFL too.
