MONDAY MATH PROBLEM

1. Pick a number from 1-9.
2. Multiply that number by 3.
3. Add 3.
4. Multiply by 3 again.
5. Your total will be a two digit number. Add the first and second digits together to find your favorite movie (of all time) in the list of 17 movies below:

Not to remove the mystique of this math problem which is very well constructed, but the idea takes advantage of the fact that the sum of the two digits for any two digit number, divisible by nine, will be nine.

So, if your selected number is x, the final number will be (3x+3)(3) or (9)(x+1); i.e., it will be divisible by nine. Hence, the sum of the two digits will always be nine.

A simpler example (without the mystique) would be take any number between 2 and 9, multiply it by nine. Add the first and second digits together to find your favorite movie (of all time) in the list of 17 movies below. You will notice that the answer will always be nine.
