Part of his answer surprised me - he said that they run plays so quickly that the O-Line doesn't know that it's 3rd and one (or two).

He wants the O-Line to take ownership of getting that yard - and part of that is going to be letting them know it's 3rd and one.

O-Line just hurries up, lines up and runs the next play - the "skill" players know where the first down markers are.
