Just took the Wonderlic and I scored a 9

Apr 28, 2017, 2:31 PM

and NO, I did NOT cheat. It is a much harder test than I think a lot of you are willing to admit, here are some examples

1) When rope is selling at $.10 a foot, how many feet can you buy for sixty cents?

the answer is 6 feet, but I put in 5 feet because that is also true. With 60 cents you can also buy 5 feet of rope. TRICK QUESTION.

2) A train travels 20 feet in 1/5 second. At this same speed, how many feet will it travel in three seconds?
they claim the answer is 300 feet, but if you multiply 20(1/5)(3) you get 12. Possibly this one is a misprint?

3) In printing an article of 48,000 words, a printer decides to use two sizes of type. Using the larger type, a printed page contains 1,800 words. Using smaller type, a page contains 2,400 words. The article is allotted 21 full pages in a magazine. How many pages must be in smaller type?

I just totally gave up on this one, this is way too hard

4) The ninth month of the year is
1 October, 2 January, 3 June,
4 September, 5 May.

I got this one right because my birthday is in september, still a pretty hard one with the clock ticking.

5) A boy is 17 years old and his sister is twice as old.
When the boy is 23 years old, what will be the age
of his sister?

the correct answer should be 46, but they say 40. I have done the math over and over and this one really upsets me.

Has anyone else had these problems on the test?

Also an engineer and a really good test taker. A test like this requires practice and is just a game like the SAT. There are a few question types that don't make sense to try to answer, such as that #3. The answer is 17, but it takes twice as long as another question so you should just random guess it and then move onto easier ones.

#2, divide by 1/5...

#5: 17 x 2 = 34. Boy ages 6 years from 17-23. So sister ages 6 years from 34-40.

Re: Just took the Wonderlic and I scored a 9

Apr 28, 2017, 2:49 PM

#1 should be 100 feet. .60 cents is used to buy candy to avoid suspicion when you walk out with the rope and knife in your jacket pockets.

#2 is a trick question. Anybody going 300 feet would just walk, not buy a train ticket.

#3 is also a trick question. No article gets 21 pages of a magazine unless you're sleeping with the editor. I went back and it did not say anything about a ##### doing the printing. Trying to trip you up by deletion.

#4 time ran out

#5 time ran out.

As I see them:

Apr 28, 2017, 3:06 PM

1) .60/.10= 6 feet

2) 3 full seconds. 20ft per 1/5 second. 1/5x5x3=15/3, 15x20=300

3) I looked for the right combo for the pages. 17 pages of small print:
17x2400=40,800 and 4(large print) x1800=7200. 40,800+7,200=48,000

5)17x2+6=40
In 6 years, he'll be 17+6=23
She'll be 34+6=40

that must have taken you all day to answer #3, but I am pretty sure the answer to 2 is 12 seconds, i have done the math over and over.

Re: As I see them:

Apr 28, 2017, 8:45 PM

They are looking for feet, not seconds. If it goes 20 feet in 1/5 second, how can it possibly go less than 20 feet in 3 seconds? 300 is correct.

Re: Wonderlic's easy for engineering majors.

Apr 28, 2017, 9:48 PM

I would say it is a pretty dumb test for an NFL player, but then again if you can not get at least 20 of them right in 12 minutes, and there a lot of easy questions that take less than 5 seconds to answer, it calls into question the ability of a player to think quickly on their feet. Question 3 probably holds little value in determining a player's potential lol.
