It seems like most of you are blaming Brownell for.......

his coaching style/inability as to why we lose.
When are you going to realize that it starts with his inability to recruit the players we need? That's where it starts. If we don't have the talent to begin with, we're not going to make the jump up to where we want to be.
You're focusing on a symptom of the problem, not the cause of the problem.

You mean, we actually have a BB team? I thought we's given that up.

Why do you keep posting in basketball threads?

You’ve made it clear that you don’t care about Clemson basketball and don’t view it as a priority.

Recruiting at Clemson is a Clemson problem.......

We have had some pretty good coaches over the years and to a man they have not been able to sign the top 5% of recruits. They simply go elsewhere. We have no (or slight) tradition. The top guys want to go where winning is done every year. That is not us. We are respectable in hoops. We don't embarrass and play a fairly entertaining brand of basketball. We will have to have a dabo lightning in the bottle moment to win big. Hadn't happened yet.

We don’t need a Dabo.

We need an administration that supports basketball in a meaningful and consistent way. Only then will we see what Brownell can accomplish here, and whether that is good enough or if we need to find someone else.

basketball in a meaningful and consistent way, Brownell wouldn't be the coach at Clemson.

So if it's his inability to recruit the type of players we need, then you replace the coach with one who can. Isn't that basically what happened with Tommy Bowden? Nice guy but couldn't recruit! Is that the problem?

Our recruiting issues are much bigger than the head coach at any particular time.

Look at the crowd tomorrow night and try to convince a top recruit that we really care about basketball. If we did, the place would be full regardless of the record, game time etc.

Tommy Bowden recruited a top 5 class in 2008.

Which is partly why expectations were so high going into the 2008 season, when Tommy lost his job. He recruited well, but wasn’t a good gameday coach at all. That was his problem.
Brownell’s issue is getting the talent we need. He always gets a lot out of his players and I hope he gets the chance to coach a more talented team in the not too distant future.

He recruited players who were good enough...

to make it to the sweet 16 last season. The same players, with another year of his coaching under their belts, have one win over a quality team this season and almost certainly will not even make the field of 64. How does that happen? Why should we be ok with it in YEAR NINE???????????
We shouldn’t be ok with it. We have to stop extending the contract on mediocrity and find a new coach who knows how to develop and progress the talent he recruits; then maybe we WILL be able to recruit and stop relying on a team made up of transfers.

Please stop with this “same players” line.

We lost Grantham, who is currently playing in the NBA, as well as Devoe, who is playing professionally elsewhere. Both were not only talented, but vocal leaders as well. We miss their leadership a lot this year.

You are correct - losing Grantham and Devoe

is significant. Did you expect that losing those two players would be enough to keep us from making the tournament? Before this season began what were your expectations?
