Just discovered a new feature of the ACA during my open

enrollment:

If your spouse is eligible for insurance at their place of employment, they have to get their insurance there, even if you have a better plan.

This just gets better and better.

"Every man is my superior, in that I may learn something from him."

Is that all insurance or just at your work?***

It says on the slide that it is a requirement of the ACA.

Apr 7, 2014, 1:22 PM

You must provide an affidavit for your spouse if you want to cover them on your policy.

I hope thats not enforced

It makes 0 sense to have spouses on 2 different plans

"Affidavit" sounds pretty enforced.***

architects of the plan) wrote an editorial this weekend that proclaimed that by 2025 "no one will have insurance through their employer anymore."

Everything will be cheaper and running so well by then, everyone will be buying through their exchanges as an individual.

He was boasting about this.

Which would be OK if my employer compensated me for

It makes perfect sense in my world.

My wife's employer offers a low rate on employee plus children, but it goes up significantly if you add spouse. My employer offers a great rate on employee only. No brainer.

It's cheaper for my wife and I to be on separate plans. I have a high deductible plan (with HSA) through my employer and the wife has a traditional plan through her employer. Since I rarely go to the doctor, makes more sense financially to put the premium savings into the HSA account. We don't have kids yet, so I'm able to invest the funds in my HSA tax-free for down-the-road expenses. Also, HSA funds aren't limited to the policy-holder, just to the type of expense.

Don't know how if/how that relates to ACA but my employer

Apr 7, 2014, 7:12 PM

and wife's have both have been pushing eligible spouses off of plans if that spouse has an employer-offered plan. Started pushing hard about 4 years ago IIRC.
