If UCF played BYU's schedule and ran the table, would they

Sep 16, 2019, 12:36 PM

deserve a spot in the CFB Playoff?

Not sure if many people notice but UCF played Stanford on Saturday and ran them out of the stadium. Now 2019 Stanford isn't an amazing team but they are a middle-tier P5 program. The last few years, UCF has been very vocal about thinking they deserved a playoff bid and the knock has mostly been, justifiably, on their schedule. Their big OOC games are Stanford at home and at Pitt.

Independent BYU though has scheduled a murderer's row on the front end of their schedule this year:

- #14 Utah
- At Tennessee
- #24 USC
- #22 Washington
- Also, #20 Boise St in October

If UCF played this schedule OOC and their usual slate of AAC games and ran the table, would they deserve to get into the Playoff? Would the Committee actually let them into the Playoff?

You could argue that OOC plus AAC schedule

I'm not sure that we will think Stanford is mid-tier in the PAC 12 by the end of the season.

Stanford also got whipped by USC who showed that they aren't very good either against BYU.

UCF will never play the BYU schedule because they aren't willing to accept road games without a return home games from the team. They need to lose their pride and beat a few big teams on the road if they really want a seat at the table arguing for a playoff spot.

It Depends on

what other teams do.

Remember that the Playoff in not an NCAA Playoff, but a Power 5 Conference Playoff.

That's why ND may want to join The ACC fully in the future. More than likely, the only way ND gets in the Playoff is if they go undefeated, since they have no conference championship game.

UCF would be better off being an independent that a member of the AAC - if they wanted to get into The Playoff.
