In order to win a national championship you have to

May 10, 2019, 6:12 PM

get some breaks. 1981 is fuzzy but I think we had to kick a field goal late in the game against Virginia (or something like that). In 2016 NC State missed a close game winning field goal. Last year (and I did not know this until recently) but if Brice had not led us to the game winning touchdown, we would have not even been eligible to play in the ACC Championship game. Bottom line is you have got to have no injuries and some breaks.

We won 10-8. Epic!

Tulane was an odd game, but UNC was the nailbiter:

#2 Clemson 0 7 3 0 10
#8 North Carolina 0 5 3 0 8

UNC - Barwick 22 FG
CLE - McCall 7 run (Paulling kick)
UNC - Safety, Barlow blocks punt out of end zone
CLE - Igwebuike ? FG
UNC - Barwick 26 FG

Thanks, Wikipedia!

Remember this play right here,it was the deciding factor in getting the win in Chapel Hill that day back in November of '81...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LwIN-oH144s

in the Cuse game we had injuries

and I won't call Chase Brice a 'good break'. He came out and after a couple of rough series, he saved the day!

Was talking same subject today about winning SB

May 10, 2019, 8:57 PM

I said this today about winning a SB. But, it certainly applies to college football as well. You can have injuries as long as they aren't to key contributors. All teams get banged up and nicked up and have nagging injuries! I agree with you; you have to be lucky to not have anything major to "hard to replace unique talents"!
It's "next man up" of course! But, all players aren't the same!

I would also add A&M last year to the list. To me KB "in TL16 second ever college game" saved the day i.m.o. TL is a much better QB; but in that particular game KB two TD drives helped us pull it out. And stellar defense in the end. If we didn't have KB during TL16 2nd ever game; not sure we pull it out! You have to be lucky sometimes. KB served CU even in transferring by staying long enough for TL16 to get his feet wet and settle in.

And CB drive was one of the most magical(story book) moments I have ever seen in a football game.

sometimes it's literally just the way the ball bounces.derion Kendrick fumbles a ko return against the domers, and it just barely goes over the line.an inch the other way,and who knows,so there is element of pure luck involved as well.

I firmly believe that if we had lost to NC State in 2016, we would’ve beaten Pitt.

Having to drive 90+ yards with a 3rd team QB late in the fourth quarter is not catching a break.

not be a coot. That's the first thing that came to my mind.
