The NBA not only complied, but admonished someone who didn't toe the company line.

wouldn't be affected by this. Nike is an American company. In America, his comment would actually hurt his Nike brand, would it not?

Don't see how that connects to Lebron's bottom line.

However, I think old slac's answer below makes more sense in terms of impact to Lebron.

The NBA has more fans in China than they do in the US. This

all started back in the Yao Ming years and nearly the whole country are Houston Rocket fans because of this. Well, Yao has retired now and LeBron is the face of the league over there. So his brand and the league's brand are intertwined. While he is not likely to sign any more huge playing contracts at his age, brand and team development opportunities exist in China bigtime. He stands to make more $ in the future as a team owner developing his brand over there instead of here.

Its not what he wis worried about in 2019. Either way, they should all just be quiet. They won't change a thing in China nor Hong Kong.

It's all stupid anyway, but it's nice to call out hypocrisy when it's pretty blatant. It's not just him.. Steve Kerr is just as much of a hypocrite in it all.

It's stupid if it's just about Lebron's hypocrisy...

But it's about more than that- the Chinese are importing their values to Western countries, rather than market liberalization exposing the Chinese to liberal values. And they're doing this because our increasingly woke corporations are more afraid of losing their business in China than of supporting authoritarianism.
Here's a question- the NBA makes about $500 million in revenue from China. What if the FOP charged each police officer ~$600 to replace that revenue. Would Lebron, et al. then be upset whenever anybody ever criticized the police?
