In 1959, I worked at WANS in Anderson. We did at lot

publicity for Clemson and I became very good friends with Bob Bradley. He was pretty much a one-man department at the time. He was later allowed to hire some help and he hired Jerry Arp. Jerry was responsible for me getting the public announcer job at Clemson which I did for several years. Jerry left to go to Texas A&M where he died in an automobile accident. I am pretty sure Tim replaced Jerry at Clemson. None of us would have thought at the time that time Tim would become a legend. He is going to hard to replace. He created a whole new world for people in sports information. I wish him the best going forward.

Was that the old 107.3 channel?

I believe they used to play a lot of pop and rock when I was a kid. It was that channel or WCKD (later WROQ). I think they went R&B later and that wasn't much my speed.

Then you knew my father. He was a salesman and came to WANS from Hampton around 1964-65. He didn't stay there but about a year, something about not getting along with the Owner's wife.

Big guy, mustache named Jim Butts.

I still remember Bob's smooth North Carolina drawl like it was yesterday. Now Tim is moving on, he replaced a legend and became a legend in his own way. Maybe he will be SID emeritus like Bod did to give the new guy some help. Happy Trails.

BOB Bradley..a Gentleman's gentleman!

Jan 27, 2018, 2:58 PM

He called me "The Flagman" in 1977 when I waved the 1st Cotton 3'x5' Orange PAW Flag home & away on a pole..til I retired it in 1992.

I got it out of storage last Dec2 to wave at ACCCG with win over Chain Gang. It has holes, blood, mud & water stains on it since went to many bowls, to Notre Dame, BC vs Flutie, Woody slug fest, 1982 NC, Fall 1982 game vs UGa, etc.

Oh, once saw Bob dusting off our trophies in trophy room and at UNC personally loading game & players stuff onto team bus.
