Beer makers are starting to get it. Today at Kroger in Aiken I saw...

Sierraveza -Sierra Nevada Messican beer rip off.
Sam Adams Bavarian Lager - Sam Adams Spaten rip off.
Palates have tired of all IPA all the time. Choices at the grocery store are starting to reflect that.
Flavorful, old school lagers are where it's at.

IPAs are only type of Ale beer.
The difference is the mainly the temp difference of fermentation.

Ha ha. Drink what you like, my man!
I’m drinking a 2017 Bigfoot. Drank 2014 - 2016 over the past week. Only one beer left from my cellar: Burton Baton. The oldest one I had. Beer fridge will be ready for the move a few weeks early

Your tongue cancer has clouded your judgement. Plus you are using the grocery store as your measurement. Please go to a place where people don’t buy Bud Light, and you’ll see beer that impresses beer drinkers.
For every SN lager, there are at least 5 ales. And Sam Adams...lol...just lol.
Stick to your Stella. More ales for me.

As a person in the industry. Those beers are being made to...

Target a different customer segment than their normal Ales, IPAs, mix packs do.
The marketing Hope is that a person who doesn’t usually drink craft beer drinks Sierraveza enjoys it and it opens them up to the brand; and craft beer in general. They are driving to make more craft beer drinkers from the light beer and import drinker.

as a relative of a person in the industry, they make lagers

because they sell and their distributors want them. Plus what you said. Devil's Backbone sells a ton of their Gold Leaf Lager, a glorified Budweiser, which they thought they would drop upon the ABB acquisition, but the distributors demanded they keep it. Their #1 beer is Vienna Lager, a nice upgrade lager, and a new fast grower is their excellent Mile 842, a "hoppy Lager"

so they want to move you into better beers, but mostly they want to sell you a beer.
And, their best beers are not their lagers. They would rather move you into those better beers, but selling you a beer is great.
