refused to recite the anthem and threatened the teacher with violence. That second part is kind of an important component.
Poor substitute teachers. They just rarely seem equipped to deal with challenges in the classroom.

I'm not exactly sure how an 11 yr old can actually do any violence to a teacher...but, I doubt the threat was significant enough to warrant an arrest.. he's 11, call his mom to come get him.
You're right about substitute teachers though, we used to give them helll in high school. The poor things were ill equiped.

I think you’re correct that it was handled non-ideally

but what I am frustrated with...and what I ultimately consider to be a bigger issue for our society than the heavy handed initial reaction to a kid that physically threatens a teacher, is the absolute garbage profession that journalism has become. The headline you linked was “Boy, 11, arrested after refusing to recite 'racist' Pledge of Allegiance”. Technically correct, just like “Boy, 11, arrested after brushing his teeth and getting dressed for school” is technically correct. But it obviously implies that the kid was arrested for not reciting the pledge, which is clearly not true. The quote in the article even said “the boy was apprehended by a school resource officer because he wouldn’t follow directions, threatened the teacher with violence, and said the officer and the principal should be fired.“
The “journalist” knew that, but chose a headline that was clickbait and would feed into the divisive “patriot/non-patriot” narrative that sells papers (or gets clicks, or whatever). Truth be darned.

From my understanding, it’s usually the editor that

finalized a headline. Not the actual author of the article.
But yeah, the click-baiteness is pretty annoying overall.

argue that no teacher brings threats of physical violence on themselves. It definitely reads like the teacher handled it very poorly, getting defensive and rude in response to an action that is within the rights of the student.
Like I said, substitute teachers always seemed to be ill-equipped to handle a difficult student and ironically were great targets for backtalk from students when I was in school. Everyone knew they held little authority, mouthing off to them rarely had a long term effect and they were glorified baby-sitters (handling out quizzes and reading materials). Ah well...a shame for her that she let this kid get to her.

I'm a little uneasy that we now arrest 6 graders for being 'disruptive'. Wow.

You never can understand cause and effect. Too fuckedinthehead there in 'the middle ground.'
The kid made this choice to disturb the peace. One must choose their battles. And an 11-yr. old has the capacity to decide is this a hill I am prepared to battle, fail and have my life affected.

Trivialize the threat of violence. Then, in a few months you'll be complaining about the same kids hints of violence was ignored. Beg for better gun and knives controls.
You Libberpoontangs are nothing but noise.
