I am glad he chose football so Scott Boras can stop telling the media that he guarantees he plays baseball. The nerve of him to speak for the kid goes your personal gain.

Thoughts? He’s making a poor choice, IMO.

1. He’s a 5 foot nothing QB and won’t be playing against Big12 defenses anymore. 2. Wouldn’t surprise me if he isn’t drafted much later than he’s expecting. 3. He has to give his baseball signing bonus back so hopefully he didn’t spend it. 4. He probably will have a much shorter career making far less money with more injuries.

To me, baseball was a no brainer.

On the other side of that though

What are his odds of really making the majors? So many pro baseball players toil away in the minors and never make the big leagues. If he's a 1st round draft pick in the NFL, which most seem to think he will be, he's going to see the field - likely as soon as next season. That surely has some allure.

He won’t get picked in the 1st round for the reasons already noted. He will fall into the draft rounds where the money is substantially smaller. He likely fights to stay on a roster unless he finds another position. In a few years he can pick up baseball and then toil away in the minors for even smaller paycheck.

He should take the 1st round baseball commitment already in hand when baseball has a reason to push him up the minors. Come back to football later if it doesn’t work out (XFL will be looking for a Heisman guy to promote).

You sure about that? He's mostly being projected in the

top 15. He would have to fall a long ways from there to not be a 1st rounder. This is NOT a great QB draft class.

I think he'll take the football $$$, play 2-4 years in NFL

and then go get some baseball $$$.

That's what he has to say and do if he expects to be a first-round pick

Otherwise his draft stock plummets. It's also more leverage to get more money out of the A's. I still think his future is in baseball, or should be.
