What is your assesment of Duke football this year?

Aug 7, 2018, 3:12 PM

They had the 21st ranked defense last year and return 8 starters.

Are they a real threat in the Coastal?

Ranking was probably inflated a bit by the lack of firepower that Coastal offenses had unless it was adjusted. Gilbert and Giles-Harris are legit though.

They were 41st in S&P+ and 34th in FEI and both

Aug 7, 2018, 7:20 PM

of those metrics adjust for opponents. So yeah their total defense ranking was a little inflated, but they were still a solid defense, especially for Duke.

I think Miami is the class of the Coastal...

While I think Duke is going to be better on both sides of the ball, their schedule is a bit tougher.

The Blue Devils will be just good enough to win most of the games on the schedule, but I still think seven wins is the ceiling for them.

I think VaTech and Pitt are the only teams with a long shot to sneak up on Miami.

Personally, I think the winner of GT/Miami will be in the driver's seat to win the Coastal. Game is at GT this year and GT is healthy. I think GT wins the Coastal, but they have to play VT at VT, so VTwould be the only other team to win it. Duke is going to be very good, but their schedule will cause them to lose too many AWAY games.

Calling it now - GT wins the Coastal and CLEMSON wins the Atlantic. CLEMSON beats GT twice this year.

No. Miami and VT are still the class of the Coastal.

VT lost almost all of their defense.

They are down.

And yet, they still have more incoming talent. No, I still think they finish higher than PUke.

I hope they play Scar in the Bell Bowl.

Aug 7, 2018, 6:23 PM

Duke would kick that ###.

Clemson doesn't care about basketball....as evidenced by Brown-L getting 14 years.

As long as Coach Cut is there , they can be dangerous .

Their defensive coordinator got hired away by OK State

Aug 7, 2018, 7:19 PM

He seemed to be largely responsible for the improvement with his super aggressive style so it's hard to know how good they will be next year without him.

I think they are probably about a .500 team next year though.

I had heard that Duke's secondary is legit, that their corners and FSU's are the only ones we face this year with the cover skills to play press coverage. Yes, Duke. That would give our starting QB a reasonably passable passing test.

The writer thought that, if Dabo is reticent to play TL16, the press coverage could neutralize the air game, and Coach Cut can always be counted on for a good game plan that would score points on offense, so the burden for victory would fall on the ground game/special teams.

The new DC plays havoc with predictions though, and i have no clue how good an evaluator the guy was, but he sounded well-reasoned.

I didn’t know Asians and Indians were that great of athletes. That’s all that’s there.

Then ventured over to chapel hill and just a bunch of hippie freaks there. What a $hithole just 10 minutes apart. I know where next atomic bomb should fall

So if they use a dirty bomb they might just clean the place up?
