We have to have the steepest Upper Decks in the country

Oct 28, 2018, 11:14 PM

Had a State fan tell me they got half way up the Upper Deck last weekend and his wife started to freak out a bit. They've been in pretty much every Upper Deck in the ACC, but they had to sit down for a second, let her calm down, then continue up to their seats. She was never really comfortable with the elevation.

Ive read some threads on rival message boards that told stories of visitor fans literally getting nose bleeds in the North Upper Deck

Best Is The Standard

I'm guesssing the slope is between 45 and 50 degrees?

I haven’t been on our uppers in a while but Louisville

I agree. GA Tech is steeper than ours.

WE WERE IN THE UPPER UPPER DECK AT A@M AND FELT LIKE WE WERE RIGHT OVER THE FIELD. GUESSING THAT WAS PRETTY STEEP BUT GOSH WE HAD A GOOD VIEW OF THE GAME.

Yep. We were too. A&M is very steep for sure.

Sat in the north upper deck for our 51-14 loss to FSU - row mm I think. Neither my wife and (adult) daughter ever left to go to the bathroom or concessions for the entire game. It is ridiculously steep!

Georgia Techs upper decks are about the same as ours. Very steep

Yeah, but not very high.

Never been in ours, but sat in TENN upper deck a few

Oct 28, 2018, 11:43 PM

times many years ago, and it felt as if you leaned too far forward, you'd fall over the edge. Extremely steep.

Grew up in Knoxville and was a Vols fan until I came to school here. Having sat in both uppers, I would say Tennessee has the most steep of the two and probably some of the steepest in the country. Probably a product of trying to cram 100k into a stadium

I like the upper decks. Back when we sucked and the last 20 rows were empty by half time, I would go hang out on the back row and stand up most of the second half.

Must just be a coincidence, because the altitude is no where near what causes nose bleeds.

Clemson and US Cellular Park are notorious for that.***

Oct 28, 2018, 11:40 PM

US Cellular Park actually had to "flatten" their UD, but it's still steep.

Need some CU engineers or math majors to see what our % is. According to Google

The steepest stadium in the world is 34% and being built in Sydney.

The Sugar Bowl is steeper. I couldn't make a full stride to

Oct 29, 2018, 10:08 AM

next step. Had to place both feet on the riser before lifting foot to next step, then place the other foot on the step and repeat. It was like climbing a mountain.

Bank of America Stadium is pretty steep. I got pretty hungry at a Panthers preseason game but not hungry enough to go to concessions and have to climb back up.

Sat in the upper deck at UT for our 1974 game. In addition to being steep, they also swayed a bit which didn't help my acrophobia. The stadium was built on flat ground so the decks are very high as well.

No doubt about it they’re steep. This is part of why DV is so loud. The field is below street level and the seats go straight up

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: We have to have the steepest Upper Decks in the country

Oct 30, 2018, 1:54 AM

Yes we do and a terrible design...both sides need to be torn down in the off-season and make an upper deck bowl all the way around the satdium that’s 10-15 rows less high...bowl keeps noise noise in...seating capacity about the same...all seats are better, viewing wise, for the consumer!!!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Sounds like a quick

Oct 30, 2018, 6:35 AM

And inexpensive renovation. Good, off-season project....

2024 orange level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

yes they are. Much worse going down than coming up***

First time I sat in home upper deck was Wake Forest in ‘81. The night before I separated my shoulder and tore ligaments in it in a high school football game. I was hopped up on codeine for pain, traveled 3.5 hours that morning to Clemson. Going up with one arm was tough but when I went down I just knew I was going to stumble and fall down and over. The only comfort was that I wouldn’t feel any pain because of the meds I was on.
