Garnet and Black Traditions stores going under......

Apr 30, 2019, 8:26 PM

Bower Parkway store already closed and now the stores in Cayce and Lexington have announced they too are closing. Coots are too ashamed right now to buy and wear coot gear. But the store’s name was a misnomer to start with. There is no such thing as “garnet and black tradition” in anything except losing.

Apr 30, 2019, 11:21 PM [ in reply to Hard to compete with Goodwill*** ]

Saw a bunch of Coot stuff in the Goodwill when I was looking for tools, took pictures and sent too some Clemson buddies. I'm sure that is why Coots went through rebranding trying to stir up new logo sales for existing businesses but also to help the UA contract. Especially since they finally paid off the OBS after his 3yr apparel contract, haha!

The one on Bower Parkway closed a while back and
that included the Tiger Paw and the coot store.
There is a lot of competition in this area. The
mall (Columbiana Center) sells college gear as
well as Dic#ks on Bower Parkway.

Re: Garnet and Black Traditions stores going under......

This is sad.

Last week Dabo,Brent and Bates flew to Atlanta and picked up the MacArthur Trophy, then flew up to Nashville where Dabo was a featured, center-chair interviewee of the big ESPN guns covering the draft.
Then the Tigers went 4, 13 and 17 in the first round on the first night with Wilkins personally making Goodell look good with his chest bump. On the second day Mullen, Bryant and Renfrow took home cash and got some more national attention for the Tigers. This week a couple of news articles pointed out we are preseason #1 and the odds favor us to repeat as national champs. Oh, and we have picked up a couple of 5 stars in April, with more expected in May. Just a typical offseason for the Clemson Tigers.

And now Gamecock paraphernalia stores are closing for lack of business. I tell you this is sad.

Once upon a time in the wayback, we used to talk about the Gamecocks winning the offseason, being the Spring Time football champs. You know the kings of the off season. Remember that?

Now they got nothing. NOTHING.

Sad.That's all you can say about the 'flagship university' of South Carolina.

OOPs. Just blew Dr. Pepper out my nose trying to type flagship university, while thinking about cycling out, Josh Belk and the euphoria that swept through Gamecock Country when we only beat them by 3 touchdowns way back in November. Yaknow what Bentley said, 'Everyone knew that they weren’t that much better than us or better than us at all.'

And now Garnet and Black Traditions are closing.

Sad, I tell you. So sad.

And don't forget the part about the Raiders intentionally drafting Tigers to improve the character/leadership/culture of their team!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

^^^^^^THIS^^^^^^ is an underrated post...

May 1, 2019, 9:48 AM

I have NEVER heard an NFL team GM or otherwise admit that they drafted players from a particular college team for their leadership & culture because they want to inject that leadership & culture into their organization...

Nobody has said that about Saban and bama, ND, USC, Mich, osu, psu, or any other program; I might not have heard it personally or second hand but that is unprecedented and all of Clemson Nation should be proud of it!!

They should do well. Hey, or just make it an SEC Store. That would be perfect. It just means more.

was ordering Carolina items and USC items, and they couldn’t figure out why the “wrong” stufff kept being delivered. So they finally just decided to close the doors for good.

This is true. My hairdresser’s cousin is in yoga class with the owner’s old neighbor’s brother.

Garnet and Black Traditions is owned by Jewelry Warehouse, a local jewelry store in the Columbia area. Pretty much all the Jewelry Warehouses are closing. Crap jewelry and too much competition.

Don't they have Tiger Paw Traditions store and site as well?

I remember in the 80's when Jewelry Warehouse had a Greenville store as well behind Haywood Mall where Fried Green Tomatoes is now. They had a huge CU/SC dept.too.

Yes, Tiger Paw Traditions too. They actually had a good variety and selection of Clemson stuff. Especially after the National Championship wins.

I would assume so? I liked that store.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

those stores were two sides of the same store

May 1, 2019, 9:52 AM

owned by some iteration of the same family (dad and founder passed some time ago, not sure who in the family actually owns them)...

so, I would imagine that both sides will be closing or has closed.

The Palmetto Moon in Summerville had a really large selection of Clemson gear while there u of 5c section was about a quarter the size. I love being in Charleston and seeing less and less u of 5c stuff each year.
