Flash Back: Rivals ranked our 2003 class #66 in the nation!

May 6, 2019, 3:37 PM

That sounds horrible ... but ... Alabama was ranked #48 that same year and Ohio St. was #40.

Meanwhile SCAR was #8 and N.C. State was #7 ...

Just a note from the “How Things Have Changed” files. ????

I think the hotseat talk with Bowden really hurt our recruiting that year.

I remember the 2004 class being a massive disappointment.

May 6, 2019, 3:56 PM

We just came off a hot end to 2003 and it did NOT translate onto the recruiting trail. Surprised they have 2003 ranked higher than 2004. I always remember 2003 being considered better than 04. Corey Lambert was the only 4 star and he actually never started for us.

2003 was Bowden’s best season.

An incredible end to that season always left me wondering what might’ve been that year if the man could actually coach.

I always wondered what happened between the WF ...

.... game and the FSU game ? If they could make that big of a change in one week the team obviously was capable of great things - so why hadn’t they been playing like that all along ?!? Does anyone have any insight into this?

If people were as good as their obituary - and products were as good as advertised - this would truly be a wonderful world !!

Tommy knew how his dad coached so well he knew what he would do on defense by how he lined up. That's how he was so competitive with his Dad.

Knew exactly how he coached and thought an used it against him!????

2003 and 2004 were disaster classes.

May 6, 2019, 5:26 PM

2002 was OK and 2005 was good because of James Davis, bit really from 2000-2005 was an extremely bad recruiting cycle.

It just goes to show how much better kids are getting at football. 15 years ago there were no 4 stars to be found, now we find them everywhere.

There were a few underrated gems in that 04 class. Michael Hamlin, Chris Clemons, Aaron Kelly, and Barry Richardson.
