VT vs UNC transfers

Aug 29, 2019, 10:15 AM

THis type inconsistent junk is one reason to dislike the NCAA. Reward the guy who hops from school to school and penalize the guy trying to be near his sick mother.

NCAA is a SWAMP (cesspool)

Aug 29, 2019, 10:20 AM

....that needs to be drained.

So, a knee-jerk reaction

Aug 29, 2019, 10:22 AM

Carries more weight than a well thought out, 'wait and see' perspective. That's krap. Of course, when you consider the institutions involved...well...

yeah that was my conclusion. Is there a rule anywhere they dont ignore to benefit UNC?

The biggest problem with the NCAA...

and it has been an ongoing issue for decades, they selectively enforce their own rules.

There is no fairness and there is no consistency.

If there is any waiver system in place at all

Aug 29, 2019, 10:26 AM

Then the VT player certainly should qualify.

Which leads me to believe that the system should either be:

1) No waivers at all. Once you enroll somewhere, any transfer to a school in the same division of football leads to sitting out one year.

-or-

2) One penalty free transfer per career anywhere you want for any reason at all. Immediately eligible after enrollment.

The system that's in place ain't working...

and needs to be completely overhauled.

Shrug, without getting into the details I actually think that the VT decision is correct but the Carolina is not - but not outside reason.

Statesville to Blacksburg is only 1.5 hours closer. I think if the kid transferred to any of the Piedmont NC schools, it would be a better case but bleaksburg is still 2 hours away.

My thing is simple, apply the one year restriction universally OR do not have at all.

Doesn't take a rocket scientiest to figure this one out.***

meh.... not enough info to go off in these articles. I'm

Aug 29, 2019, 11:24 AM

sure there was a lot of info reviewed. Seems that late application and outside of the 100 mile radius got the VT player. UNC guy - doesn't say where mom/sister are and what the issue is- where he graduated from HS is 200 miles away but one or both could be living with him or getting treatment at Duke, etc. so hard to judge either without all the facts.

If the VT guy hasn't RS before then it's not a big deal. He will get another year of education pd for and potential grad classes. Another year in the weight room to make the transition up. He will have more time being RS to help take care of his mom than if he was playing this fall.
