The beach

It's been so nice here lately. Might be a bit windy, but what kid doesn't love the beach?

Take the boat out to Fort Sumter, that's always fun for younger children.

I'd recommend Hominy Grill for the family.

Screw Calford.

Gilligan's in Mt. Pleasant.

Also, there used to be a really nice park on Sullivan's Island (with swings, slides, etc)

the Yorktown aircraft carrier and the Clamagore submarine. The Fort Sumter tour is pretty cool too and there is a children's museum downtown.,

Take them on one of the ghost tours at night.

There are a couple of water parks too (Splash Zone and Splash Island) but I doubt they're open yet.

This weekend.... It's Corps Day weekend at ElCid

Mar 17, 2016, 4:26 PM

On Saturday, the barracks are open to the public from 830 to 10ish. The new Summerall Guards will be getting their rifles and performing for the first time around 930, I think. There's also a parade at 11am.

Mt. Pleasant Pier, Yorktown, Harbor tour, Morgan Creek Gril

Mar 17, 2016, 1:20 PM

If you bored with Fort Sumter just take a short harbor tour via one of the big boats and do not visit fort. Morgan creek Grill isle of palms has cornhole and stuff for kids and best sunset on the east coast... Have a burger on sullivans at Poes and end up at morgan creek for best views anywhere

My favorite things to do in Chas are mostly free

Mar 17, 2016, 3:21 PM

--Go to Sullivans Island, hit the Shem Creek Park on the way back in around sunset.. thats ine of the prettiest places on the planet anyway, but sunset is unreal.

--Walk from the battery to waterfront park.. hit the market, then compkete complete the loop by coming back to battery in church st.

-Charlestowne Landing and James Island County Park are excellent and inexpensive ideas

-Restaurants: Hominy is expensive. Try Early Bird Diner in West Ashley for cheaper but phenomenal chicken and waffles. Wow.
Also, hometeam bbq is my bbq of choice. One on Sullivans and one in West Ashley.
I used to love Vickeries dining on the deck. Their quality has plummeted but hard to beat the views. Pricier, but my fav restaurant for the grown ups is Fat Hen on Johns Island.

Have fun!

Re: Daughter's family visiting Charleston

Mar 17, 2016, 4:53 PM

There is plenty to do. Patriots Point...Fort Moultrie...Fort Sumter...The Market downtown...James Island county park...Wanamaker park...please don't go to Hyman's Seafood as it has gone down a little bit. Used to be top notch but they are struggling. There's many other restaurants that's are worthy...Home team BBQ in west Ashley or Dukes BBQ in north Charleston will be the best you ever had. Be mindful of this ridiculous hipster or folklore movement going on in Charleston right now. Little dooshe bags! You'll notice them when you seem them out and about. Smoking their vapes and wearing a fadora.
