Spiller is the quick easy answer but, I would also say Chad Morris.

Bringing in the new offense allowed the Tigers to sign Watkins, Peake, and Martavis Bryant in the same class at WR. Those guys along with Nuk changed the perception of Clemson. The 2011 season got Clemson national recognition.

Brent Venables did the same thing on defense the following season.

Clemson always got a great player here and there. None before were quite the national recruit Spiller was. After those two coaches came in and brought their schemes, energy, and/or reputations, Clemson started being a place that tons of elite players wanted to play.

Spiller is the first big time recruit that we got but we

wouldn't have gotten him without James Davis so James Davis is my answer to your question because he was so instrumental to getting CJ and no top recruits gave us the time of day when James signed here.

I think you are talking about a phenomenon, the rise of Clemson football, that involves a number of key factors. Location---one of the most beautiful areas in the country. Money. Has anyone bothered to visit the new football facilities at Clemson? Recently rated number one online in a review of the top twenty college facilities in the country. Yeah, number one!! Stadium: Huge---seating over 82 thousand. Among the highest-paid coaches in the U.S.! A little cow-college? Clemson is huge---go drive through the campus, as I recently did. I think that these myths help us, and Dabo plays on them, but the reality is that Clemson is a very large university with facilities and a stadium second to none.
