Who remembers when the QB could motion to the ref that he couldn't hear because of crowd noise and play would be stopped?

I remember when we stopped the game AT NC State 5 straight times back in the late 70s.

I was there also. The rules then was the home team was to be penalized for excessive crowd noise. Refs didn't know what to do!

Seems like I remember a game vs Duke back

in the mid to late 80's where there was actually a delay of game penalty called on our defense because the crowd was so loud.

I was 3rd or 4th grade and I remember grandpa laughing about it.
