I felt that I missed an opportunity of getting to know a great man. I was one of his many students. It saddens me that he was ashamed that his platoon had to surrender to the Japanese and that he carried that shame for years. He never spoke of those years because of it.
It is a small world as I have an uncle who married one of his buddies' widow. I did not learn that until about a year ago from my sister who is into genealogy.
My father always told me, "be careful who your heroes are because most of them will eventually let you down". Ben Skardon is one who will not...

It's not specifically about Col Skardon but covers the events.

It should be required reading for every young person to fully understand the sacrifices made for this great country.

IMO, if the NFL kneelers understood the sacrifices these men made, they would find another way to support their cause.
