An intriguing question from FGF…

Feb 14, 2019, 9:49 AM

Consider as a background, if UCF can count an unearned national championship. Can the U of SCAR count 7 unearned ACC championships? Can they make retro-rings and have ceremonies?
See a recent FGF post: “Had USC remained in the ACC, they may have broken through at some point and accomplished something similar to what we're seeing from Clemson right now. Imagine Spurrier's best teams with an ACC schedule for example. But at the very least, USC would likely have enjoyed Va Tech level success over the years. Just since USC joined in SEC in 1992, Va Tech has won 7 conference titles and posted 14 seasons of 10 or more wins. That's what playing in an easier conference can do for a program.”
Perhaps they should place flags in their stadium and banners in their new football facility beside their second place bowl finishes.

Yeah but they didn't want to be there even ... and stuff . Plus Deebo bailed on his team and Will Mudshatt had a tumultuous morning the day of the game ... he learned that Virginia intended to play defense and would also try to score on his team , and they were successful in doing both .

Plus they were looking ahead to their spring game .

They miss the important piece. It’s not a curse. It’s the fact that

Feb 14, 2019, 10:14 AM

Usuck alum/fans are inherent losers and Clemson alum/fans are inherent winners. Sure they’ll have a few seasons here or there. But they are ne’er dowells. They are the people with everything going for them, get into drugs, alcohol, or cheat on their spouse and lose everything. I’m not saying no Clemson fan does that, but there is a difference in attitude of someone who expects and wants to win and someone who deep down inside despite the look on their face, has a psychological need to lose.

Clemson's fault that Belk quit Football!

Feb 14, 2019, 10:16 AM

Yep, if we had not released him unconditionally, he would not have been able to quit USuC so soon. If they want ACC trophies, they got a give Belk a participation ring for 2019 also! JK - That's how stupid that logic is. Go Tigers!!!!!!!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If they are not in the SEC they lose the best selling point they have for recruits.

It’s sad really.

Re: An intriguing question from FGF…

Feb 14, 2019, 10:28 AM

Faulty logic from the feeble chicken brains once again . If playing in a conference that is percieved as weaker then all but guarantees you championships ... why haven't UVA ,Wake , Duke , UNC , GT or NC State had great runs and won multiple conference titles ?
Not that simple , and it isn't easy . The Coot mind stays focused on what ifs and they're constantly comparing themselves to teams who've been successful . It's the same as if I bragged about making a record in a Myrtle Beach recording booth once and then started comparing myself to Micheal Jackson or the Beatles.
Truth is , if they'd stayed in the ACC they may have won a couple more ACC titles along the way , but that's a stretch and a half to even grudge them two . They're just not good at football , have never been good for any sustained amount of time and they seem to fit that barrel bottom like an o-ring manufactured to do just that .

Beating Alabama 44-16 has them grasping at straws.

Anything they have to do to get some sleep at night. Best of all we have statements like this to laugh at and ridicule them with.

Re: An intriguing question from FGF…

Feb 14, 2019, 11:16 AM

Ohhhh, this could be fun.

Lets take their best "Spurrier" years.

2010: EASY! 9-5 "SEC East" Champs. Lost to ACC Champs "Florida State" in the Peach Bowl.
Result: NO HARDWARE!

2011: 11-2, they beat us and we were the "champs" thanks to Bud Foster's inability to defense the RPO. The again, we lost to GT and Nancy State... so they did as well as a mid-level ACC team (8-5).

But they lost to Auburn (4th in SECW) and Arky (3rd in SECW). Auburn beat Virginia (mid level). They also did not win their division. So lets replace South Carolina as the Atlantic "Champ". They would face a 11-1 VT team that was in the conversation for a BCS appearance (though not likely to jump over the snubbed OlkSU). Coots as a RPO? Nope. Beamer/Bud Foster win this one as it was the last "great" VT team (got robbed in their bowl.. it was a catch). Another common item for this year is that BOTH the Coots and the Hokies trailed trailed the Pirates at half.
Result: NO HARDWARE

2012: Florida State was the champ. Common opponent is Florida. Coots were run out of the swamp while FSU was ahead before imploding in the 4th... well, the were ahead at one point despite 5 turnovers in the game. Unless the FSU wheels come off, FSU handles the coots.
Result: NO HARDWARE!

2013: This one is easy... The Natty-FSU would put 60 points on the coots as the "OF" university plays bridesmade again.

So the "best" four years would equate to no hardware.

My first thought on this subject was that if not us, FSU would have taken them out too.

Thank for for doing the heavy lifting on this. I thought I was going to do all of that research until I came to your post.

Re: An intriguing question from FGF…

Most UofSuck fans have a total misconception of the nature of competition in the ACC based upon 1969 history and the bias that the SEC least is somehow a terribly difficult division of late! The post on FGF has no bearing to what Va. Tech accomplished under Frank Beamer and the comparison of the OBC tenure at Usuck is not relevant whatsoever. Because we have beaten them five years straight after suffering through a similar streak their fans all of a sudden want to demote our schedule as does ESPN and offer excuses accordingly.

The UofSC would have an immediate wake up call playing a majority of ACC programs just like they showed against UVa. in the Belk bowl! Their fans still cannot get over that totally unexpected loss to what they perceived as an inferior opponent. I am so glad they finally play BAMA this year because I hope Saban buries their notion that Usuck is even in the same class of competition.

Go Tigers!
