D-1 program not a club version. How much support is needed to help get this going? We dropped it three years before my freshman year. I have sons and a nephew that love it, y’all think we will get a d-1 team anytime soon?

With Title IX, unless it’s chicks wrestling it has no chance

Because football has no female equivalent, and for some reason isn’t exempted from the total due to that fact, those 85 scholarships have to be offset somehow.

We had at least one NCAA Champion ... Noel Loban (I think) and our coach Sam Henson was an Olympic wrestler (maybe gold medal winner, not sure).

NCAA, then a club, and then gone. What a shame.

Yes, It’s not a money issue. We got wm softball starting up, so now they can add men’s wrestling... sounds fair too me

Swimming wasn’t a money issue either.

Terry Don killed the NCAA teams and now Clemson has recently notified the club team that they are out this summer.

Sammy win two National Titles. My buddies Louis used to wrestle him at practice.

TITLE 9 is only about equal scholarships. Softball probably adds 22 to 25. They are usually full ride.

yes and to get in compliance you add womens and/or remove mens.
As I remember it we killed men's wrestling and added rowing to get in compliance, but its been so long I may be out of order on what was added and removed at the time.
But I seem to remember men's wrestling being the big casualty of Title 9.

The wrestling team did itself in. They lost their team

by not having control of the players. Title IX is just a convenient excuse. I hung out and worked with several wrestlers at the time. They were always in trouble.
Lately we’ve added women’s golf and now softball so I would imagine wrestling could be added back if the school wanted to. I would think they would add lacrosse first, though.

My son wrestles currently for Clemson, still club team and they are wrestling their first matches Saturday at Tennessee. The need better support and fund raising. I would love to see a return to Varsity. It could be done, just takes enough people to fight for it.

There's only 74 D1 wrestling programs and very few in the south. (NC State, Virginia Tech, App State, Chattanooga are the few that have teams).
When I worked at North Dakota State, working the wrestling matches was pretty fun. Some schools out there really care about it and pack out basketball stadiums like Iowa, Minnesota, Penn State, Ok State

Gil Sanchez was cutting corners and using ineligible wrestlers in meets. The program was going on probation when they dropped it after Sammy won his second NCAA title.
There has been a group that has been pushing for it to be brought back but not sure where they stand with the AD these days (been a couple years since I followed their activity). I believe they are called "Friends of Clemson Wrestling"
