About paying the womens soccer team what they deserve? It isn't your money. It isnt going to affect you.
The US women just won back to back global tournaments and our mens team cant even qualify despite having a ton of money thrown at them. In the markets you don't throw good money after bad but that's whats happening here
But sheesh ... Chill out. These women love America ... They just want to get paid and i am all for it! Thats capitalism!

I hold the utmost respect for the athletic accomplishments of champions. On-field performance is a cold, hard fact - winners beat losers and should be applauded for rising above their competition.
The problem is the word “deserve” - it’s a completely subjective word when it’s tangled up in emotional appeals. The cold, hard fact of getting paid is you deserve every penny of what you earn. Another cold, hard fact is that the women’s team ALREADY earns paychecks at higher rates than the men’s team with respect to gross World Cup revenues.
“When the United States Women’s Team defeated Japan in the 2015 World Cup the entire tournament generated around $37 million in revenue and the players were paid 13 percent.
In the 2010 Men’s World Cup in South Africa the tournament generated around $4 billion in revenue and the men were paid 9 percent.
The most recent Men’s World Cup in Russia generated around $6 billion in revenue and the men got around 7 percent of that.
The Women’s World Cup in 2019 was expected to net around $131 million in revenue, a significant increase but not near what the men make.“

I agree that you can't look at just total paychecks without taking into account the revenue difference. But do these numbers also take into account that the women's World Cup field has half as many teams as the men's?

I'm sure the men generate more money, but that stadium looked pretty full and happy to watch women's soccer. Years ago, female tennis players stood up for, and got, a substantial increase in payouts. Why shouldn't the soccer players do the same?

Nobody should stand in the way of them seeking to maximize their earnings potential, but any increases in pay will be made with respect to the gross revenue generation of the team and sport. It’s not even wrong for them to “want” equal pay to men’s players as a future goal - it will simply require a revenue stream that is commensurate with that of men’s soccer.

You've misunderstood how capitalism works. It's driven by a free market. Things are worth what people are willing to pay for them. The concept of "Deserve" isn't a factor in capitalism. You are referring to socialism, where everybody gets the same money regardless of their value because the government says it must be so. Your ideas are what created Title IX in college sports. That's why we give 20+ scholarships to women's rowing and only 11.7 for men's baseball (for example).
I'm not advocating one system over another. I'm just a stickler for using the right words to describe one's position.

I’ll advocate for the one that rewards achievement and innovation rather than chainsawing it down out of “respect” for underperformers. Equal opportunities should be guaranteed, and equal outcomes should never be expected.

Question, where do we find a high school that has and supports a women/girls rowing team that colleges can recruit from to fill those 20+ women's rowing scholarships. I know that Clemson has a women's rowing team, but where are these young ladies that row, row, row the boat coming from bc, surly they have to be recruited from somewhere right? Are they coming from Girl's only private schools?

the government becoming corrupt b/c they now hold all the cards, not to mention they have to start pulling back the reigns of spending b/c the rich people have now left the country while the debt (b/c of all the welfare/social programs) is continuing to skyrocket. It always starts as this utopian, kumbaya idea but ends in a ton of rebellion, famine, and usually alot of dead people. So hopefully no one should ever be duped into thinking Socialism is a reasonable option...good gracious.

Like when I cleaned the windows at the PT clinic: the fill-in DPT had a trainee there. It took me 5 minutes to persuade them that the windows were filthy, and the regular DPT let me clean once a month, and it's already been 3, and Home Office has approved the expenditure.
When I came back after 15 minutes of work with an invoice, the trainee responded, "Wow!$15 for 15 minutes!"
I responded, "If that's too expensive, do you want me to slow down?"

But, I'll respond to your question about paying women "what they deserve" because that type of statement is fraught with misunderstanding.
In the United States of America, Market Forces drive wages. In other words, people are paid what the market deems their skill-set is worth. People's wages are not based on gender, religion, race, emotion, or any other arbitrary factor.
To answer your question about why Women Soccer player aren't paid more: It's simply supply vs. demand. Theirs's not a huge market for women's soccer (especially in the US). Fewer viewers equals less revenue. The market decides who deserves to get paid more, or less. So, the women are getting paid exactly what they deserve to be paid for playing soccer in our country.
In other words, the more demand there is for a particular skill-set the higher the wage is for that talent.
That is capitalism. Capitalism is NOT paying people what THEY think they "deserve".

Men's soccer brought in $6 billion during the 4 year WC run
Women's brought in $139 MILLION
Get that, they are paid off of their Sport's earnings, not the men's
We might need to sctually do the math, they may be overpaid,based on their actual production.
This isn't College, Title 9 Socialism isn't in effect

Why does Brad Pitt make so much and school teachers make so little? Because their are millions of school teachers and only one Brad Pitt. Is that 'fair?' No, that's science.
I do not care how the (socker) team resolves this issue but the though that someone is going to overwhelm economics and end up not falling when they cut the limb is hilarious to me. I just want to be there to see the look on their face as they come crashing down.

this actually came up on PTI yesterday, and I agreed with what Wilbon said. From a global FIFA perspective, the men and women generate wildly different amounts, so I'm not sure you can pay them equally based on that. However, USSF can and should pay equally for the resources of the USMNT and USWNT. From a federation perspective, there's no reason one team should get more than another when it comes to training and salary.

I have seen multiple arguments for and against paying the players more. Men sports do generate more revenue traditionally than females. However, the US Women's team may be the exception. The problem becomes will people support their local female club teams to help generate the interest.

Just to remind you a 15 and under boys team beat the world cup chumps 5-2 in a scrimmage. Maybe this helps explain why there is a pay-gap. They ain't that good.

I don't see where the skill level matters. If the issue is only between what the American men are making in soccer compared to the women, then the amount of money they bring in should be the only issue IMO. If the interest is there and the product is making money, and if that money made is around the same as the men then they should get paid around the same.
There are plenty of men in the UFC that aren't even good enough to be on PPV that could beat the crap out of Ronda Rousey, but that doesn't mean they deserve to make more money than her to fight, simply because the average fan is going to be willing to pay much more money to see her fight than they would an average or lower rated man fighter.

The Women are already making a higher percentage of their revenue generated than the Men.
Comparing the competition of the womens game to the mens game is a ####### joke as well. A team like Thailand would never make the Mens World Cup.
Maybe 5 countries in the world even give a #### about Womens Soccer. We put way more into womens sports than other countries. There is ZERO excuse why our womens team should ever not win the whole #### thing.
