Boston isn't even a university.

Nov 10, 2018, 1:57 PM

Let that sink in a minute.

Even Anderson College is a university, they say.

Colleges and Universities are organized differently. It says nothing about size or quality of the school.

Georgia Tech isn’t either.

GT and BC are most certainly Universities

Nov 10, 2018, 2:26 PM

they just don't have university in their name. Tri-County Technical College is not a university for instance. All three are colleges.

MIT isn’t a university either but not a bad school! Just like GT it’s an institute of technology. Boston University is a rather large school. Probably twice the enrollment of BC. BU is a Methodist school I believe while BC is a catholic school.

How in the world is MIT not a university?

Nov 10, 2018, 2:47 PM

Did they quit doing research last week? No more degrees?

I think ANY college that offers both an undergraduate AND a graduate degree is considered a university, even if they choose not to use the term. I’m not sure how research enters into the definition but I suspect that many graduate degrees involve some time of research. Clemson aaquired university status my senior year in 1964. I believe the ring I have was the first with university on it. Not sure about that however.

Boston has 31 universities in the city. Yes 31. Boston University is one and is not small. Also a few little known schools named Harvard, MIT, Tufts, BC, etc... A bastion of higher education. Give credit where it’s due.
