Favorite cult movie?

Jan 27, 2019, 4:21 PM

Rocky Horror.

Re: Favorite cult movie?

Jan 27, 2019, 4:35 PM

I hated Rocky Horror. I saw it a few times for some reason when I was young. I was dragged there by friends. It showed every weekend right next to my house.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I refused to watch it for 30 years.

Jan 27, 2019, 5:28 PM

Sometime in the early 2000s I saw it for the first time. I'm guessing had I seen it back in the day I may feel just like you.

Re: Favorite cult movie?

Jan 27, 2019, 4:36 PM

I'm not sure what a cult movie is exactly, so I ran thru a list of the top 100 and well of those, I've only seen 6 and Labyrinth would be my favorite of them

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I would probably define it as a movie that did horrible

Jan 28, 2019, 10:12 AM

If you add in 'A huge following of dedicated fans who consider viewing the movie with other fans as a lifetime experience,' my connotation of a cult movie would be completed.

Btw, you took this topic in the right direction. Our definition narrows that field of 400 down to Rocky Horror, imo. I've read that people would dress up as RH characters and act the movie out on stage while it played in the background. Personally, I didn't like it that much.

This site agrees with you. It's the top out of 400 for them.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Just going down that list

Jan 27, 2019, 4:49 PM

These are my top ones from the top 100...

Blade Runner - 6
Repo Man - 8
Pink Floyd - The Wall - 2
Lost Boys - 9
Pulp Fiction - 4
Breakfast Club - 1
Mars Attacks - 5
Goonies - 3
Dr. Strangeglove - 7

That's stupid, IMHO. Breakfast Club isn't a cult

Jan 27, 2019, 10:48 PM

movie....it's a movie that was a huge hit when released and almost universally loved by those who saw it. It's the least cult-y cult movie I've ever heard of. Same with Goonies. That was a huge flick.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpgringofhonor-obed.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Jan 28, 2019, 8:07 AM

Not the accuracy of their "cult" status given by the list.

oh I know, that wasn’t directed at you.

Jan 28, 2019, 9:09 AM

That’s list just made me physically angry.

Just because the 20 year old who made the list had never seen nor heard of the movie, doesn’t mean it’s “cult”.

Jan 28, 2019, 10:14 AM [ in reply to That's stupid, IMHO. Breakfast Club isn't a cult ]

a movie which is watched, or at least remembered as a great life experience or something.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpgringofhonor-clemsontiger1988-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Ha, Felix the Cat.

Jan 27, 2019, 5:32 PM [ in reply to Re: Favorite cult movie? ]

I was smoked up on pot at a the drivein when I saw that. I laughed my aszoff. I tried to watch it a few years ago and found nothing funny about it. I'm guessing it's the Beavis and Butthead of my generation.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpgringofhonor-clemsontiger1988-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

pretty sure they effed that up - should be "Fritz The Cat"

Because it's well loved amongst a large swath of the

population.

IMHO a cult movie is one that hasn't been seen by most, or if it has been widely viewed, was only loved by a rabid few.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail is about as much a cult flick as Titanic.

Go to any party worth going to---you'll find at least one or two people who can swap Monty Python lines word for word with you.

one I've seen the most: probably Monty Python & Holy Grail, Pulp Fiction #2

From the list posted, the first one I hadn't seen was #27 "El Topo". Never even heard of it.

Favorite I think is Raising Arizona. Nick Cage's finest work.
