What coach has done the most with the least?

Two immediately come to mind: Cutcliffe and Leach.
They both have some of the worst facilities in the P5 and no history. Yet, both coaches turned perennial losers into competitive winning programs.
Anyone else come to mind?

IMO, he's right here in Clemson and it's Robbie Caldwell. He was getting 2 and 3 star O Linemen with an occasional 4 star until Mitch Hyatt, then Jackson. He always seemed to develop them and put a good OL on the field. Now the "worm has turned" somewhat and better linemen are coming in. The line this year is going to be great. The next 4 to 6 years will be even better with no injuries and the good Lord willing.

Does it matter if it's their own fault they have the 'least'?
Paul Johnson barely even tries to recruit great athletes, so he would make my list. Pat Narduzzi at Pitt overachieves at least 4 times a year. Cutcliffe at Duke--pretty obvious. Dave Clawson at Wake--his team is just as dangerous with thrir backup QB. Bronco at UVa--give him another year like last and he goes to #1 on the list.
NOBODY in the SEC deserves to be in this discussion.

The all-time answer is Bill Snyder. Heck, he even did it during the rise of the 90s Nebraska, Brown's Texas and Stoops's Olkahoma. He wasn't in a power vacuum.
Active coaches, I would say Mike Dantonio at MSU would be my next choice.
Dino Babers could be in that group, but I want multiple seasons of success before I say for certain.

I agree on Babers. He was 8-16 in his first two years at Syracuse so it's hard for me to put him on a list like this based on a single 10-3 season.

Duh, David Shaw. That is my pick. Can't believe I forgot him. only knock is that stanford wasn't bad before his tenure... but they did not win hardware until he took over.

If you are talking historically I would vote for Stan Parrish at Marshall. In 1984, Parrish led Marshall to a 6–5 record, Marshall's first winning season in twenty years and the first since the team's 1970 air disaster. The next year they went 7-3-1. He turned Carl Fodor, an option QB, into a passing QB, he had 39 touchdowns and 6,128 passing yards in his career.
Parrish won with some of the worst facilities in the country, and for the most part not highly recruited players.

Bill Snyder at Kansas State

You can't believe how bad K-State was when he came to Manhattan. They made u5c look like a pro team. Look up the records before Snyder and after.
