ACC offering Clemson more money?

May 16, 2012, 4:18 PM

RT @Bushido247: "The ACC tried to offer more money to Clemson and FSU per one source at the ACC meetings." -- Brian Ethridge/Baylor.247sports.com

RT @Bushido247: "But we were told it was less than half of what the Big 12 would make with Clemson and FSU in the fold" -- Brian Ethridge

Where is all this coming from? Head of BOT @ FSU just gave a gazillion reasons as to why FSU is committed to the ACC!!!

"Clemson Is Coming" says Stephone Anthony (Class 2011)"
"Why NOT Clemson"
"Why Not Dabo"

Sounds like a load of Bushido to me

If we were offered more money but it was still less than half of what the B12 would make with FSU/Clemson then that would mean that the B12 thinks they will get 35-40 million per team with expansion.

I haven't ready anywhere that the money could even be close to that number.

Yep. That's SEC type money and I don't see any configuration of the Big 12 that gets close to that.

I've seen that # thrown around--that Ethridge article (Baylor 24/7 sports, I think) from yesterday.

The theory is that if they go to 14 schools (if I remember correctly), then the Tier 1 and 2 TV rights will get them $28 million per team and the conference title game would net each school an additional $3 million. Our tier 3 rights were valued at somewhere north of $5 million. That puts us at $36+ million per year.

Yep, moving to the Big XII is a complete and total no brainer. We have to do it.

Re: ACC offering Clemson more money? No way

equal sharing is an acc founding principle. I doubt that changes

And where is VaTech in all this? No way ACC offers more to

May 16, 2012, 5:37 PM

CU and FSU. The other schools would not stand for it.

I'm pretty sure Swofford would rather the conference implode than offer us or FSU an extra dollar.

IMHO much more likely to see non-monetary incentives

May 16, 2012, 5:43 PM

For example it is common knowledge that FSU and Clemson both want 8 conf games rather than 9.

The only monetary change I might see would be the conf returning the tier 3 value to the schools but then again how would they determine that?
