I don't know what souse is.

Jun 12, 2019, 11:43 AM

And chocolate gravy? That sounds made up. I don't think I've ever eaten pickled pig's feet, fried squirrel, fried gizzards, or chitlins, but I've tried everything else at least once. Maybe not rabbit stew, but I've had rabbit. Does that count?

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgbadge-ringofhonor-19b.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

A lil upset rabbit stew was there but not turtle stew

Jun 12, 2019, 12:36 PM

if so, chalk me up for 35.

I never heard of "Burgoo" but looking it up, it's Irish or Mulligan Stew. So hellsyeah on that. man it's been a longtime since I had that, I had forgotten about it and how good that is.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think that is a bad assumption. Have you really never had

Jun 12, 2019, 12:41 PM

livermush? I hate it, but have had it once. Dad told me it was sausage and I took a real big bite.

Jun 12, 2019, 12:52 PM

it was just "pears", but my momma made the heck out of this.

and anybody who ever had Sunday church dinner-on-the-grounds or a funeral had strawberry congealed salad:

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We didn't ever put mayo on it, and certainly not cherries.

Jun 12, 2019, 1:10 PM

It was just pears and cheese. Seems odd to me as an adult, but I bet it's still good, especially with the canned pears.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgbadge-ringofhonor-19b.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The options growing up were either mayo or cream cheese

Jun 12, 2019, 1:26 PM

canned pear, shredded cheddar, (mayo or cream cheese), cherry on top

biggest regret from that 26...congealed salad. just whut dee eff.

also had rabbit, but not the stew. no minter cheese?

oyster casserole sounds gross, plus it'd be hard to impress the misses w/ my slurping ability if I'm eating it with a fork like some high brow.

how do you say p-u-s-s-y backwards?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I was born on in the most backwoods, redneck place on this..

Jun 12, 2019, 1:43 PM

earth, Rockwood, TN. We make WVa people look like Ivy League professors. I actually like 16 of those selections and I've had a few more than that. I ate fatback sammiches W/ mustard as a child but when I learned that souse (as labeled) was ground up pig brains (called headcheese by poor folks, black and white) I started reading the labels more closely.

Roadkill, maybe. Souse, never again. That list is not authentic and only people that are dead would eat everything on that list and they'd have to be starving to eat some of that stuff.

if you stop at venison then 29 otherwise 28 also

Jun 12, 2019, 2:06 PM

Traditional burgoo was made using whatever meats and vegetables were available—typically including venison, squirrel, opossum, raccoon, or game birds—and was often associated with autumn and the harvest season

badge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

basically all the leftovers in the fridge from Sunday dinner

Jun 12, 2019, 4:03 PM [ in reply to 28. What is burgoo?*** ]

put in a pot as a soup or stew. We got it plenty of times growing up. Sorta like vegetable soup with meat in it. Aka Mulligan stew.

Beans, corn, tomatoes, okra, and whatever leftover meat pulled or chopped. No set recipe, just whatever there is thrown together.
