3 old Land Cruisers for sale update.

May 22, 2019, 8:02 AM

RH Tig

97 40th Anniversary dark green 193K miles bought in Alexandria VA
97 black 260K bought in Harrisonburg VA
96 Triple locker black 240K

Dude works for Norfolk Southern, cars are at his Smith Mtn Lake home. He thinks the 40th Anniv one might be sold. Did a little work on all 3, no known issues. Have a few pics, they all look purty good. But that's a lot of miles as a starting point.

Even well-maintained and garage kept, those are all getting

to be middle-aged. Not that I still wouldn't consider one at that price, but I'm flush enough with cash to look in double that price range.

exspecially if you're going to drive it.

I'd be using it as an extra vehicle, and that mileage is a little high for me too.

200k is absolutely nothing on these if it's been maintained.

Wouldn't sway me a bit for the right truck.

My current automotive ennui has me pondering

something like this quite seriously, provided I can still find a cherry one for $7k-ish or less when I'm ready.

Montero?

Did you mention it, @Obed®?

I'm a Trooper guy, but if I found a 1995 Montero SR,

The 40th anniversary package is overrated.

May 22, 2019, 8:33 AM

It's an exterior color, a two tone leather interior, and a badge.

The real money on these is the factory front and rear lockers, which the 96 appears to have.

I'd look for receipts for the head gasket having been done, and a recent front knuckle rebuild as well....that's a common maintenance item that gets overlooked.

Don't sweat the interior condition of the leather (although factory cloth is nice to have). You can now get nice replacement leather in OEM colors and pattern for <$1000.

If you can find one, it's nice to have one without the factory luggage rack on top---it was a dealer installed option at the port and is a typical weak spot for eventual water ingress.

Lastly, make sure you drive one if you're a big guy. These were sized for the Japanese market, and there's a lot less room in the driver's seat than you might expect---I bought mine sight unseen and it was a bit of a surprise.

yeah, what boosted my interest is a raggedy one I've seen

May 22, 2019, 8:40 AM

at a one-man used car lot close to here. It's a 40th, but who needs a mini-plaque signifying such on their console. He can't get enough stuff repaired on it to get it inspected, but I did sit in it, and was surprised at the lack of leg room. Still need to drive one.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

raggedy ones can still be good options, just figure

May 22, 2019, 8:49 AM

on $2k as a minimum starting point to get it back to the mechanical baseline where it should be.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpgringofhonor-obed.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

well, this one's fenders don't line up right on one side.

May 22, 2019, 9:00 AM

and the rubber weatherstripping and gaskets for the fender flares are all dry-rotted. I'm not looking for a pristine one, nor a big project. I wouldn't sweat about 200K miles either- this ragged one shows 193K, but those above w/ 240 or 260 as an ownership starting point is a bit much. And no telling what keeps turning up to get it to pass inspection. The day I looked at it, he was replacing the cat converters. That was weeks ago. It disappeared, then reappeared this week, but still parked in the back.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

gotcha.....my definition of "raggedy" didn't

May 22, 2019, 9:21 AM

include much bodywork needed, just general mechanical and basic cosmetics.

A lot of them though do seem to have the 90's mohawk where the paint fades along every horizontal body panel---hood, roof, etc.

Loving my 1969. I should have bought one earlier. So much fun to drive and my two little ones love it too, constantly asking to go for a ride. I went and bought a booster and new car seat just to leave in there as we are taking so many rides. Hardest thing was finding sufficient way to tether the car seats. That took some searching.

can't go wrong with any of the 3.

May 22, 2019, 12:19 PM

if they weren't black APM might be interested.
