Dwayne Allen explains why he kneeled during anthem |
Former Clemson standout
Dwayne Allen had a catch for nine yards in the 26-23 loss against the Houston Texas on Sunday.
However, most people were not talking about his performance on the field, but instead social media followers were bashing him publicly when he was shown on national television kneeling on the sidelines during the national anthem. Some of the tweets he received included: "Had a lot of respect for @Dallen83 until I saw that crap. You're not a hero for being on your knee." "You are a total disgrace to America." "Only a glory seeking punk brings his politics to the stadium. I'll bet my wife and I do more for poor black children that does he." "You're a disgusting person & disgrace to all vets who died for us or came home badly disfigured. Your coach should insist U B gone." For over 4 years, @Dallen83 has knelt in prayer at the end of the National Anthem for every game. Sunday was no different: pic.twitter.com/EMVM8P9aWP NBC announcer Al Michaels didn't help things when he called out Allen as an anthem protester instead of researching that Allen has always kneeled during football games. Allen responded on Tuesday to all of the criticism that he was receiving for kneeling during the national anthem. "For every game of my career, I have taken a knee toward the end of our anthem," Allen said via Colts.com, "to say a prayer for every man that steps on the field. Because of recent events, I explain to you why I'm kneeling on the field. After reviewing some of the comments over the social media platforms, I realize sometimes a few will spoil the bunch. It was a vast majority that was expressing words of hate. Not love. Not devotion. And not pride for our great nation. What I want most is for this world to be a better place for everyone who lives in it, for this country to be a better America for everyone that lives in it. And for those reasons, I’ll continue to kneel, and I’ll continue to pray. I love this country. I love everyone that lives in it. Go Colts." Allen has 18 receptions for 192 yards and two touchdowns this season. For his career, he has 109 receptions for 1,237 yards and 15 touchdowns.
