Clemson makes move in polls after series sweep |
Clemson moved up and also moved into top-25 rankings Monday after an opening-series sweep of William & Mary.
The Tigers were ranked highest by Baseball America preseason (No. 12) and moved up one spot there Monday, to No. 11. D1Baseball.com debuted Clemson at No. 25, while ACC foe Duke dropped out of their rankings with a 1-2 weekend at Vanderbilt. Over the weekend, the Tiger pitching staff totaled 36 strikeouts and just two walks. The starters surrendered six earned runs over three games and 14 innings with 13 strikeouts to no walks, led by redshirt sophomore left-hander Jake Higginbotham's one run and two hits allowed in 5 1/3 innings on Sunday. Preseason All-American Seth Beer hit .375 with two doubles, a home run and four runs scored. Chris Williams hit .364 with four runs scored and a double. Patrick Cromwell and Drew Wharton led the way in RBIs (3). The Tigers host Furman next on Tuesday (4 p.m.) and then D1Baseball No. 16 Dallas Baptist on the weekend.
