Nation's top-ranked linebacker recaps "great" Monday visit to Clemson

by - Staff Writer -

Nakobe Dean kicked off his summer travels this week with scheduled stops at the University of Georgia and Clemson, and both visits gave the top-ranked linebacker plenty to think about.

The 2019 Horn Lake (MS) linebacker prospect is ranked as the No. 37 overall player nationally by ESPN, is rated as the No. 1 inside linebacker prospect by 247 and is rated as the No. 2 overall linebacker by Rivals. He is listed as the top-ranked player in the state of Mississippi for 2019.

Dean has offers from all of the top programs in the country but it was a visit to Clemson that he was most excited about.

“Everything went well, actually. I'm just leaving Clemson,” Dean told TigerNet shortly after leaving Clemson’s campus. “The visit went great. The people and the facilities they have are what stood out the most. They have super nice people. They are people that you could have a family cookout with.”

Clemson’s Reeve’s Football Operations building is a big recruiting tool for the Tigers’ coaching staff and Dean said he walked away impressed with everything about the new complex.

“It was great. I've never seen one like it,” Dean said. “Just the scenery of it all and how it was built. Everything you need is in one place.”

However, being able to sit down with Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables may have the most beneficial aspect of the visit.

“He (Venables) basically reiterated to me how well I would fit into his system,” he said. “He also told me about how he guides players not only on the field but off the field.”

The visit to Athens, Georgia, went about as well as he expected, too.

"Georgia is great. I got to talk football with (linebackers coach) Coach Glenn Schumann and I loved that," he said.

What's next for Dean as far visits and summer plans?

"Yeah, the visits might give more to think about. I've got to think everything over," he said. "I've got some more visits planned for this week. I'm going to Florida State later this week and have some more visits coming up this summer."
