Really hurts their depth at safety since they were already thin at that position. Plus he was their best defensive player on special teams:

With six defensive starters returning in 2018, the South Carolina Gamecocks have a number of question marks on that side of the ball — at the safety position, in particular.
Senior Steven Montac and redshirt junior Javon Charleston were the starting safeties in spring practices, but those spots could look much different by September.
“Jamyest Williams [shoulder] didn’t go through spring practice, but he’s going to play safety this season, after playing primarily at nickel as a freshman in 2017,” SEC Country’s Hale McGranahan wrote. “Jaylin Dickerson continues to battle back from his shoulder injury but looked last spring like someone who was ready to play as a freshman.”
